hey guys.
in a couple of weeks im gunna splurge out and buy the Masterpeice Optimus Prime from Toy's R Us in the UK (god knows where ill put him though).. but the last few times ive been looking at him when ive had no cash,.. i kept noticing parts of the paint work, more so on his chest.. have chipped off already!! in the box!!
any advice? or is this gunna be a case of inspecting every single one in its box till i get one thats not damaged in anyway?

Well I guess so. I haven't really inspected the Hasbro versions that closely before (on account of owning the original Takara MP-01 and him being so bloody expensive) but the only sure way you're going to insure you get a good one is an on the spot inspection.

That's what I did.
Just look carefully at each one and pick the one with the best paint apps. It all depends on how the guy/gal that made it felt that day...
Make sure it's the 20th Anniversary one though. The Classics version is shite.
And you'll want to keep the box, so don't settle for dinged ones.
Best of luck!

thanks AK and Zuko... oh.. and of course its not the classics one... i mean.. wtf is his rifle all about?! blue?! i got a lot of funny looks in TRU the day i laid optics on... that..
"what the flaming holy **** of primus is that?!" -points, gapping-
something like that anyway..
its just gunna bug me if i do spot inspect it... find one that looks good paint app wise, to only get it home and find chips n such somewhere i couldnt see whilst it was in the box.
as for keeping him mint in the box... ive thought about that and decided to get two... just at different times.. (money and such like) itd bug the crap out of me not getting a good look at him!!

You're not a Tranformer you are a person, just try to remember that.

Yes I believe they operate a 'three strikes' rule, one more TF reference used as a figure of speech counts a a felony.

lol... i cant help it.. ive gone over to the badside and embraced my inner-geek.. ill try and keep it under some form of control though :s

No worries, we're all geek here.
It's just that using using words like "energon" instead of "booze", "optics" instead of "eyes" and "primus" instead of "sky-bully" gives the rest of us geeks a bad name!

speaking of which, when my housemate acting up, i do threaten to try and transform her... she shuts up pretty quick.. ^.^

I cant believe my optics!! People on a TF forum calling someone nerdy

J/K Newayz all of the Hasbro Primes seem to have at least a few imperfections in the paint, especially on the chest area you will have to just find one with as little imperfections as possible and just grin and bare it!

heheheh Skybully.
And by no means did I mean keep him boxed. To hell with that!
Open him and love him! Mine's very happy with his alternator army occupying the middle (and tallest) shelf in my room!
But the box, I find, is a lovely piece in itself. It's what got me started on keeping all my tf boxes.
Sadly, there's not much you can do about the inner paint apps. Just hope they're okay. If not, I guess you could always take a paint brush and some metallic grey paint to him and touch him up....
Sadly sadly, I'm not Zuko either

This would happen less if people didn't keep changing their names.
You'll be delighted to know mine was perfect then Deceptiwho?!!
With his age, however, his chrome is wearing away and somehow I've managed to lose the little coiled spring in his left smokestack

Oh ill be keeping the box for sure, that old school G1 mesh pattern, the second I saw it I felt a kid again,.. ok well more so!
Ive got experience painting models and such, so a touch up here and there wouldnt be too hard i imagine. It'd just be a case of matching the colours and getting the right paint. Any suggestions? I hear alot about, tamaiya paint or something?
couldve made that up though..

I don't really know what sort of paints are available to us in the UK. All I read about is the US stuff like Krylon and Tamaya

the back water bum end of nowhere im in, theres mostly water based acrylics.. or hammerite (metal spray paint).. im not sure if i could get hold of some from a specialist model stockist though, weve got a couple of those kicking about.. failing that theres always the good old internet, but then theres the trouble of colour matching..

Ask in the Kitbash forum. I'm sure there's a UK basher in there that can point in the right direction.

Nice one. That prime may be the greatest tf mould in history. At least I think so. I still get a thrill transforming and posing him, even if MP screamer has just stolen his matrix.

dont i know it

the thing isnt done justice in the box i think... so many little details and things. that, and where he is in my room (proudly ontop of my tv, ion blaster in hand staring down the barrel..) the glow from the power light on my antenna just makes him all the more impressive

still cant get over it only being £30 though... i couldve kissed my housemate when she pointed that out.. i was too busy checking for chips in the paint app.. which many of them had..

Care to post a pic of that? It sounds sweet with the lighting. Mine doesn't have any lighting effects, but the light from the matrix holder is powerful enough to light up my room in complete darkness. Enough to actually find lost missiles and whatnot.

lol, the lighting effect was totally unintentional

just so happened that id run out of space on my bookcase where all my other TF's are and figured he deserved somewhere on his own to be displayed.. just so happens that was on top of my tv

but yeah ill try and get a picture up later on
