I personally prefer the Toys R Us Soundwave because he can carry 2 tapes and comes with 2 tapes(Ravage & Laserbeak). Encore only comes with Buzzsaw and only holds one tape but if you're a G1 purist I suppose, the Encore is the way to go.

I second that, it's what I got too. Pretty book-style package with pop-up card figure & inside window display, and its price isn't steep at all.

Cheers!

I don't know about any places in the UK, but tfsource, BBTS, and actionHQ still has them. There may be others, but those are the ones that I'm certain of.

I like the TRU Soundwave which I have and displayed nicely. I ordered the Encore Soundwave but the lady on eBay is taking 20years to send it to me, so I will post another response if I ever get my encore Soundwave from that scumbag.

Get the Encore.

The TRU one is just a modded blaster and is not a true reissue. Additionally the tapes are larger than the original and look a tad bit deformed.

Is the TRU SW a nice toy, absolutley. Is it a Reissue of Soundwave, absolutely not.

I couldn't decide which one to get so I got both. I also have the TFC version. I haven't opened the Commemorative or Encore version as there isn't really any need.

You do get the two tapes with the Commemorative version but the Encore looks proper G1.

Now I just have to wait for my Encore Starscreams to arrive and I can the complete set :)

Technically all Soundwave reissues are SoundBlaster reissues since the Soundblaster mold was the one used to make them.

but isn't soundblaster a reissue of soundwave with modded parts hence soundblaster should really be called soundwave if we go by that logic?

so in actual fact the TRU and Encore soundwave reissues are reissued + modded soundblasters which are reissued and modded soundwaves hence ultimately making them reissue soundwaves :P

Hasbro/Takara-Tomy called these soundwaves and I'm gonna call these soundwaves. :)

Irrescpective of which tape door you're getting the design of the tape deck buttons is different. It's a single piece on all of the reissue versions where they were individually moulded buttons on the 80s original, so technically there isn't an authentic reissue of Soundwave available at all. It's a small niggle really though, whichever one you go for is sure to make you smile. I've got the TRU version and I'm perfectly happy with that one despite the differences.

Can anyone remember if the TRU reissue box has a bio for Laserbeak and Ravage? Mine's at my parents' house.

Did the original Soundwave's box have a bio for Buzzsaw? I'm wondering where his bio on TFU.info came from.

I'm not 100% but I think the original had a strip style tech spec for both one above the other. That was usual for the rare occaisions in G1 where two characters were packaged together (Micromasters excepted) but I don't have that packaging magicly to hand I'm affraid.
