Just curious as to how many in total are there?
And which is considered the best and rarest?

Personally i think Ravage kicks ass in the cartoon/comics. Not crazy about the toy though. (Although i have the Alt XK and Energon Battle Ravage versions  )

According to TFU, and this might be a little off, there are 26:

Beastbox - Decepticon Interrogator
Buzzsaw - Decepticon Spy
Decibel - Cybertron Information Gestalt Warrior
Dial - Cybertron Energy Resource Scout
Eject - Autobot Electronic Surveillance
Frenzy - Decepticon Warrior
Garboil - Destron Information Control
Graphy - Cybertron Aerial Intelligence
Grand Slam - Autobot Audio Correspondent
Howlback - Destron Enforcer
Laserbeak - Decepticon Interrogation
Legout - Cybertron Information Gestalt Warrior
Noise - Cybertron Forest Investigation
Overkill - Decepticon Warrior
Raindance - Autobot Video Correspondent
Ramhorn - Autobot Warrior
Ratbat - Decepticon Fuel Scout
Ravage - Decepticon Saboteur
Rewind - Autobot Archivist
Rumble - Decepticon Demolitions
Slamdance - Autobot
Slugfest - Decepticon Messenger
Squawkbox - Decepticon
Squawktalk - Decepticon Translator
Steeljaw - Autobot Tracker
Zaur - Cybertron

And I would think the combiner Cassettes would be the rarer ones.

FYI, the Stegosaur Cassetticon is Slugfest. Here are the Japanese-Only Cassettes:

Dairu (Dial)

Zauru
http://www.cobraislandtoys.com/tf/1987/zauru.html

Gurafi (Graphy)
http://www.cobraislandtoys.com/tf/1987/gurafi.html

Noizu (Noise)

Dairu & Zauru combined to form Legout, while Gurafi & Noizu formed Decibel.

Thanks for the link for the pics! Those Japanese ones look great! I really like the tapes, but I have never seen those before.

All the dino ones are very cool. I also like Ravage. His silver and black colours are hard to beat.
