Are paint chips inevitable with all Masterpiece Prime figures?

It seems there's no avoiding even the tiniest paint chips. The other day I got my second MP-01, factory sealed, still in the tie-downs. I still haven't taken it out from the tie-downs, but staring real close at it in the tray, I can see tiny chips on the chest doors and lower legs. I'm not talking huge ones, just little ones that you have to really put your nose to the figure to see. Does EVERYONE's Prime have that?

I'm particularly interested in WHEN you got your figure. First run? Second run? I've heard QC issues are more common with the second run. Then again, die-cast is die-cast and will chip.

Has anyone ever figured out what color to use to give him touch-ups? He looks fire truck red to me, but I don't know what kind of blue his lower legs are.

I haven't noticed any on mine, from the later runs of the original 20th Anniversary Prime (with the black gun), but then I haven't really been looking very closely.

It's probably inevitable with any metal-painted figure, to get small chips. Paint just doesn't stick as well to metal.

I'm going to admit, I played with mine. I transform him often, and repose him almost every day. Because of this he's getting some rather large paint chips/scrapes. This is the 20th anniversary hasbro edition from 2002 or 2003. So I bought a sealed MP-01 from what I believe is the first run. I haven't opened it, I just hope there's no paint scrapes or anything straight out of the package. I got him in case my other one bit the dust, and it looks like its going to happen soon. Prime's left knee no longer ratchets. Anyone know if that is fixable? That plus his left shoulder is very loose and slides forward and backward, but that was a problem straight out of the box.

Anyway, I think if you took the toy to home depot, they could probably paint match and you might be able to fix up some of the paint scratches if it gets pretty bad.

ive seen plenty paint chips on the dvd prime.... ive probably looked at about 20+ dvd primes at 2 wal marts to find a good looking prime with the least amount of paint chips.... if the paint on the chest looks good, then the legs are paint chipped, if the legs look decent, then the paint on the chest is messed, if both the paint on the legs and the chest are good, then the silver face mask has paint chips.... theres a lot of places where paint sucks on these, and its really hard to find a really good one, if nmot rare to find a really good one. so sweat it that much, its pretty common to get paint chips especially on the chest on the dvd primes, so im guessing all mp style primes are they same.

I'm the same way - black gun original 20th, no chips spotted yet. And mine has been knocked off a 6' shelf by jealous felines multiple times, been run over by an office chair, and otherwise been treated like... well... a TOY. :D

I just bought a DVD Prime the other day. Fortunately, I got lucky on the paint job (except one spot on the inner calf of the left leg) but the overall quality has lowered quite a bit.

Certain panels don't line up, the arms don't want to seal against the body as tight as they should, he feels fragile, and his Energon Axe is made of a much thinner rubber than the original Masterpiece/20th Prime. I owned the 20th, and I can tell the differences between the two figures.

However, I love the Anime color scheme, he looks fantastic in it.

Anyone else have structural problems with their DVD Prime? Is it widespread or could I find a better one that's more solid?
