Ask for a gift receipt.

Honestly, i don't see buying TFs as geeky.
Neither do I feel embarrassed about it.

There is no shame in collecting and having a hobby.

Why do you need a gift receipt? I'd wager that most children's toys are bought by adults anyway so no-one should be judging when an adult buys Transformers.

To each his own, but I highly doubt the cashier really gives a crap if you are buying transformers.
Its a retail position, they are probably just thinking about how they got stuck working retail.

Well, 80 over percent of the time, kids get their parents to buy toys for them. So, what, that makes loads of people geeky? jeez.
It's like how some people think people who spend loads of time reading comics are geeks. It's all a social stereotype.

Meh, i can kinda sympathize. Buying a cpl of TFs doesn't hase me at all.
Sometimes, like when Classics are released, and I have a carriage full, well, I can definately feel a little self concious.
I think you buy TFs long enough, eventually, ya kinda get over it.

Exactly. People either decide it's not geeky or they accept and embrace their geekyness/ geekdom / geekage. Either way, it shouldn't matter. Just enjoy the hobby, I say.

Blow up dolls are non-returnable, or so I've heard.

I readily accept mine. I'll be 28 in a month, I collect tfs, watch anime, and spend half my time playing video games. I really don't see anything to be ashamed about.

I sort of thought that's what's in the first post.

I never ask for gift receipt because it makes it more annoying to return I think, I haven't tried it since I don't have any reason to get a gift receipt. The people at checkout always ask me though.

Being a TF collector has it's advantages..The SW and hotwheels collectors get kicked outta the store while us TF collectors get the red carpet and subway meal deal..=D

Yup, I ALWAYS get asked. I think thats a good sign lol. If they stopped asking I'd have to think about redoing my image 'cause then I'll
know I look like a geek.

I'm a geek and proud of it. I have helped parents in the toy aisle trying to find things for their kids. I do not care what the cashier thinks. Someone on this board once got asked by a cashier, "That's not for you, is it?" Loki had the best response: take the toy out of the package right there and have him walk around exclaiming, "Optimus Prime, attack!" Adjust name to figure accordingly.

I could care less as to whether or not it's geeky, or perceived as such. If it bothers the people around you, that much...then the problem's with them.
I will however, tell someone off...bad, if they get too lippy about it.
One comment, yeah, let it go.
Two comments, pushing it, but still...let it go.
Three comments, that's it. Three strikes and you're out.

Like anyone really cares that much what you buy. I'm old enough now that people probably just assume I'm buying them for kids. I am-ME, a big kid.

I fully accept I'm a geek, all of my friends are geeks, and we don't much care. Actually, I get some of the oddest reactions whenever I buy TF stuff, not in a bad way either. When I first started buying Transformer toys over the summer every time I would bring a couple of new toys up to the check out the cashier, usually younger then me, would get very excited and tell me how awesome the movie is going to be (hadn't come out yet at this point) and how excited they were going to be. I also poked fun at myself once with a female cashier, calling myself a loser for still collecting them, and she told me not to be silly because her husband did the same thing.
Not toy related, but when I was buying the Stormbringer TPB the girl that check it through look at the cover, smiled, read the back and told me how awesome it looked. Seems like in my tiny little city anyone who was a kid in the 80's was a Transformers fan, never found anyone who has anything bad to say about it.

You all should go toy hunting with me.
Not only will you not be embarrassed about buying toys, but you'll probably get a chance to bang the cute cashier girl too.
(holy crap, did being a man about stuff die out with 80's rock?)

I think it's geeky to try and find ways to make TF collecting not geeky.
