It's not going to be a recolour of Classics Megs is it? That would really suck.

They said during BotCon that it wouldn't be.

He was confirmed as a new mould. Probably in the new Ultra class for the Universe line. Haven't seen any protos or concept sketches or anything but he was confirmed.

I'm skeptical about this. Galvatron is hard to do correctly, IMO. The biggest challenge is the head - his animated appearance features a wide "crown of horns", but when he transforms the head has to fit inside his torso. So the G1 Galvatron had a much narrower crown, and it didn't look like him at all. He looked like he was wearing one of those paper fold-up crowns they give you at Burger King.
To me, that "crown of horns" animated appearance was what made Galvatron, Galvatron. Megatron made a deal with the devil - I mean, Unicron is basically a Dark God, and is very Satanic in appearance with those hooved feet, archangel wings and horns of his own - and Megatron was recreated in his dark master's image, with a crown-like set of horns (replacing Megatron's plain-looking helmet) and a tail-like appendage sticking out of lower back (replacing Megatron's pistol barrel). Meanwhile, Cyclonus has the appearance of a lesser demon, with smaller horns, and Scourge has bat-wings and his creator's evil-looking goatee.
They have to get the crown and the tail right with Galvatron. Those are his most distinctive features, IMO. If they give him a Burger King crown again, like they did with G1, I'll be disappointed.

Yep they said at Botcon that they are going to do Galvatron and he will be a new mold.

They did a good job of recreating the look for the Energon reepaint of Megatron.
http://www.seibertron.com/images/toys/f ... ron037.jpgI think they are perfectly capable of having a head with horns store in his chest. Also there's nothing that states he's going to be an artillery cannon like G1 was.
Heck a Plane like Energon Galvatron would work just as nicely, if they gave him his translucent orange arm mounted gun and a purple color scheme.
He just has to evoke his G1 self in some way.

I agree. And it is possible to do that if there's no electronics in his body. Just have his head lift up and rotate to an alternate cannon mount with the sand-castle mount we're all used to seeing.
Although E-Galvy's crown was done very nicely, I think. And I've grown used to the old Japanese magazine pictures of very different Galvacrowns. So, to me, even if they used a different style of crown than the G1 show I couldn't mind (even if it's prefferred).

all the Universe 2.0 toys will be completely new molds - the time frame from announcement to release (1 year) should at least give people an idea for this. and no, no classic repaints since this is a new toyline.
i noticed in the link that they're going to do IH and Prowl also. woo hoo, bring 'em on. finally (hopefully!) a G1-style IH. can't wait.

When has that stopped Hasbro from including repaints in a line?
I do agree there will be new molds. But repaints are inevitable. Its part of how Hasbro works and gets money out of their difficult to produce molds.
Ohh and its a toy line in the vain of Classics. so repaints of classics molds would make total sense. Excluding the very debated Botcon exclusives.

They said that they wanted to make as many characters that they could that share the same style mold, so there would be little reengineering to do and they can get the . Hence Sunstreaker and Sideswipe. That also means that Ironhide and Ratchet (which they said) are likely, as well as characters like Prowl and Bluestreak (which they said nothing about, but logic would dictate).

well, that's true and all, but i highly doubt that they'll do a simple repaint of Classics Megatron to Galvatron for 2.0.
plus, with a year to engineer new molds, i doubt if they'll even recycle some of the Classics molds at all, except maybe for the seekers to make Sunstorm et. al.

Galvatron is confirmed as a new mold. That's not the debate. But I'm sure at some point we'll start seeing repaints. I'm almost positive they won't let the chance of repainting Rodimus into something else go by. So there aren't that many molds in classics to be used. Hasbro has been know to resurrect molds from older lines.
They brought back Armada Prime for Cybertron. They repainted Armada Sideswipe 3 or 4 times in different lines after that.
So saying the entire line will be new molds and nothing but new molds is something as unlikely as having them produce a $9.99 Supreme Class figure.

A new mold for Galvatron, a new mold for Iron Hide. 2008 is a year to look forward to.

Yeah plus there talking about two new dinobot molds for the new classics 2.0/universe line and two now dinobot molds for the animated series since I don't count grimlock as one of them although he will be done for the animated series as well.

Speaking of Galvatron, bigbadtoystore emailed me yesterday to let me know that my 6" Galvatron model kit is in its own way.

Once I get him painted and assembled, I can pose him next to my coronation-bedecked Mega SCF Starscream "bad comedy"-style.

Some of the comments here make me shake my head at the nerdiness of everyone.. including myself.

I have to say, I am looking forward to Classics 2.0 like anything. Must have them all.

Great post, I hadnt really looked at Galvatron that way. I really like your take on him.
"recreated in his dark master's image"
that is awesome.

pretty sure that the new universe line wont just be all classic characters. theres gonna be repaints from old lines to fill it. its gonna be a bunch of different lines coming together. a universe. i thought thats what they said at Botcon. its so easy to get our hopes up and let our imagination carry us away. damn, i hope they redo shockwave...

I dunno. If he doesn't turn into a cannon, I wouldn't consider him an update of G1 Galvatron. Plus I've never gotten a chance to own the original Galvatron, so I'm really looking forward to this particular mold.
As to the question of whether he'll have his distinctive features, there's nothing that says
how he has to transform. I agree that his robot head being in his chest is fairly likely, but they could just as easily hide it elsewhere.

I have to admit, I do not think that whatever they come up with is going to be superior to the Energon Galvatron mold...

And here I thought Nerf Megs WAS Galvatron in those garish colors!!!!
But I'm looking forward to the new Galvatron, should be cool.
I always felt Energon Megatron looked more like he was SUPPOSED to be Galvatron anyway. (hence the purple repaint) The way the head was shaped, the chest and the shape of the cannons all scream Galvatron.
