I don't think I've ever seen pics of that figure from so many different angles. Extremely realistic looking gun!

But I'm pretty sure it's a Pre-TF variation on the Browning mold:

If it is a re-tool, it's pretty extensive. Why can't they do stuff like that anymore?

Both of those things looks a lot nicer than G1 Megatron - actually, they look a lot nicer than most of the G1 toys. I especially like the fact that the thicker gun handle allows him to have thicker legs.

Nope.

Browning is a different character and toy.

There were three guns(at least). The Magnum shown, The Walther P38(Megsy), and a colt .45(Browning). I'm not sure if Browning is a Colt .45, but he's something like that.

Also note that the Walther P38 mould came in brown first, then got revamped into silver.

The version that we know today as Megatron with the stock, silencer and all, was made specifically for TF. However, the mould was much older.

There's a page somewhere out there on the Interweb(Angel city webhost maybe?), that shows the different gun toys that are all pre-TF.

Nope, there were two versions of the mold in the Microman line: the regular grey version, and the chrome version with extra accessories. The grey version became the Japanese Megatron (and with the extensions e-Hobby Megaplex) and the US got the chromed version.

And the Pre-TF site has gone offline I'm afraid :(

Ah, ok. I thought that maybe they remolded Browning, but that is a stretch I'll admit. Both look very similar to me anyway.

Actually, as the name suggests, Browning transforms into a Browning M1910 semi-automatic pistol. Megatron was based off Takara's Man From U.N.C.L.E. variant of the Walther P38.

Goddamn, I wish they'd used the .44 Magnum in G1, perhaps as an Autobot. Starscream with Megs' 9mm pistol mode vs. Prime with a .44. :D

No no no no no! Cowboys didn't have access to double action revolvers, hadn't been invented. Prime would have to settle for Dirty Harry quotes, unless he could remember the theme to Dirty Harry.

Thinking about it, I'd love a Transformer with an alt mode of a Colt Single Action Army or Army Model 1860. Transformers meets Revolver Ocelot. :D

Tell me one of these wouldn't rock as a gunformer?

i love looking at the browning and 44.
two toys that will probably elude my pocketbook for many years to come.
but in necessity, and coolness, they should definetly be collected.

I agree,G1 Megatron has an awesome gun mode but the robot mode sucks, largely because of the skinny legs and due to the design it's not something that could really be rectified to any great degree with the Masterpiece version.

I can really see why they picked the silver Walther P-38 to be Meg.

Good choice.

The other guns are neat, but they are no MEGATRON. 8)

I still prefer Megatron. He has a better transformation and he doesn't need add-on fists.

The only reason Hasbro picked the lame Walter mold over these two is because of the UNCLE's accessories. They figured that the Decepticon leader HAD to have something to match Prime's trailer. If only accessories had been made for the other gun-bots. I could see any of them as Megatron.
