I need help with my Transformer addiction!

I've been bitten bad since the new movie came out.
I had lot's of the original transformers when I was a kid, most are damaged or lost though now, although I do have a decent G1 Prime & Jazz.
But when in toys-r-us a few days after the movie premiered I found myself in the huge Transformer section and went berzerk!
With the sudden realization that I could actually afford to buy the lot that was it!
Help!

You can do what I do. Stop buying anything past October. If you see anything you like, put it on a list. When everyone wants to know what to get you for the holiday, pull out the list and say all of these! It' worx pretty well for me, but I save the Cue de Gras(spl?) for me, ahem, I mean Santa. Every year, there's at least one present from Santa with my handwriting on it...weird huh...

Yeah, I went crazy for the Classics, Movie, and first year G1. I just bought a MIB Wheeljack now my wallet is sore. I gotta stop already.

A sound idea. I've effectively stopped my spending for now as well...

I think
coup de grace is the spelling you're looking for.

Once you complete all of the lines that you like ... stop buying.
Then start kitbashing stuff until the new stuff gets released.

Pre-orders don't count. Convenient, I know, but I can't ask someone else to get me a Pre-order, just doesn't seem right.
"coup de grace" is correct, thanx!

Thank you for coming to the first meeting of T.A.A.
We're all proud of the progress you've made. Admitting you have a problem is the first step....

Its possible that you can find the transformer or transformers your looking for for about half of what it costs!

i was about to spell the same thing. Just say it like Don Cherry, and you'll never spell anything wrong again.

I went similarly bonkers w/ the movie toys. I bought about $150 worth the day they came out, and haven't slown down. I have nearly all the movie toys of note, plus I've picked up several older figs that I had missed out on or never knew about.
This month alone I've gotten or will be getting shortly 6 figs- movie Robot Replicas Prime/Megatron set, Energon Bulkhead, Armada Megatron, Energon Powerlinx Prime, Beast Machines Jetstorm, and a generic little tf'ing submarine. Ebay and the b/s/t sections of the various TF forums are dangerous. I keep finding these deals that I can't pass up! I'm only human!

I was more just stating that I had a pre-order in, even when I claimed I wasn't buying anymore right now...not so much that you should ask others to preorder something for you. But I agree--I don't think that's right, either.

Sorry bro, we can't really help ya stop. Actually, it's just gonna get worse. I did't realize what I was missing and came back to collecting in 2001 and my wallet has been hatin me since. We still don't talk.

I've been trying to get myself to stop for about two months now. Last month I bought four new transformers, after each one I said "ok, last one until after Christmas when I start working again". Now I'm negotiating with a guy on another site to buy a set of the Terrorcons...

No problem: set goals for yourself of who you want and then a deadline for getting them. I did that, got the figures I was looking for and now the problem is solved. Do it for each line you go after each year. For old lines, map out the figures you want to get and when you'll get them too. Since I preordered WM MP Starscream, I'm done for a long time now. I may get an Animated Prime and the Dinobots but overall, the Animated line's just not doing for me.
EDIT: of course, sometimes a goal for when you get something gets bumped up to "immediately" status. In those cases, you just can't help but hunt out a figure until you find it and then buy it immediately. It was Barricade for me (when there was the figure shortage). And now they're everywhere.

Transformers purchase in last 30 days:
$500 in various Headmasters,
$300 for Botcon 2005 Ratchet,
$20 Best Buy Voyager Megatron,
$50 Best Buy Voyager Ratchet (eBay),
$20 Voyager Ironhide + $10 in reprolabels to modify it,
$100 on custom movie Skywarp repaint,
$15 on Elita One and Armorhide,
$20 on KO WST Skywarp,
$100 on E-Hobby Clear BT Mirage.
LEGO Purchases in past 30 days:
$530 for UCS Millenium Falcon
$375 for 3 AT-AT
$350 on 6 Hoth battle sets
$50 on Lego Factory Optimus Prime
Star Wars:
$40 for Darth Revan, Darth Malek, and McQuarrie Luke Starkiller figures (eBay, can't find them in stores).
Costco:
$2,300 for 50" Panasonic Plasma TV
DisneyWorld weekend trip:

All that, and we are having a baby in January plus I just got an $800 bill for some xrays I had done a few weeks ago.
So yeah, I have a spending problem too. I'm not trying to brag about that stuff. It just kinda sinks in when I sit and write it all out and add it all up. Frotunately my wife and I have college degrees and good jobs.

I've been pretty bad lately. I used to only get the figures I really wanted, but I've noticed if I'm at the store and there's something I don't have there's a high chance I'll pick it up. Ultimately I'm not really disappointed in the toys anyway, I just think I should save more money.
On top of that I had a bit of an ebay run going lately picking up some stuff that I want. My thought was I'll run through all the old stuff I still want and then next year not have these kind of expenses. The problem is the amount of old stuff I want seems to increase every ebay search...

i'm still working to pay off the crapload of Mastercard bills i had the last 2 months due to an eBay run that went waaay out of hand.
not proud of it either. i'm trying my best to resist the new Movie restocks in our place. it's hard when my goals are the BW, Unicron trilogy and Classics lines but the only TFs i see in my area are TFTMs - it's almost making me develop a compulsive-shopper complex.

Good thing you're buying your wants now then. Once the baby is born, the buying guilt will set in. I have a 4.5 month old now and every purchase gets harder and harder. MP WM Starscream was my last Tfromers purchase for a long time to come.

MP Starscream will be my last for awhile too. I figured if I didn't pick up my wants now, I would not be able to justify it later. At lease wth most of the figures I bought, I could sell them again if I was realy in a crunch (not that I'd want to). I also have a lot of misc. stiff I'm selling on eBay, so it is not exactly like all of that money is coming directly from my bank account.
