Anyone here own Takara MP-01 Optimus Prime (REISSUE)?

I managed to get a MP OP ordered a while back and am waiting for him to arrive. However, it was the reissue version and not the original (seems like no one is selling the original).

I have heard tell that the reissue MP-01 has problems with paint chipping and poor QC just like MP-04. Anyone can verify this? Would be great if anyone here mad and rich enough to have both or who has actually seen them first hand.

Just like to know what shocks I should be prepared for when he finally arrives, since I will be opening him, and especially if I am going to compare him to the original MP OP I bought my bro years ago.

huh???

There is no such thing as a re-issue of MP-01.

Its just MP-01. The next one was MP-02 Ultra Magnus, then MP-03 Starscream, Then MP-04 Prime with Trailer. MP-05 Megatron. MP-06 Skywarp.

What are you talking about?

A second run is not considered a reissue (even though it technically is), mind you. Yes, there was a second run for MP-01 a while back if memory serves me right and I seem to remember some problems too. I don't really pay that much attention to that

Expect some minor paint chips and misaligned chest doors straight out of the box. And maybe some bleeding paint on the Autobot symbol. Possibly some smudges on the chrome grill, like someone at the factory had greasy hands when they packaged it.

have you verified this, and is this common to the second run of the MP-01? thanks. i'm really looking forward to getting one myself but i'd be kicking if i dropped $200 and got these defects instead of a quality toy instead.

Thank you. That is what I'm talking about. Most of the sellers here seem to consider it a reissue and any query from me or anyone else comes back with "Yes, it's the reissue".

I'm a bit upset here, assuming that the second run or reissue or whatever it's called, isn't simply the same MP-01 as the first run. Sounds from what you say it's in fact MP-04! Ah well, I'll just wait with bated breath and hope for the best.

Zemper - I have owned two second run MP-01's. The first, now sold off, had major chest misalignment issues - almost as bad, but not quite as bad, as what I've seen in pictures of MP-04's. I did not check for paint chips straight out of the box, so I don't know if there were any. However, I did find that the paint chipped incredibly easily whenever I transformed it or handled it in any way. And I handled it extremely gently. In contrast, my DVD Prime chips much, much, much less, and I handle it roughly.

The second MP-01 that I bought has never had its tie-downs removed. I only open it to slide it out and look at it in the tray. I noticed a couple of small paint chips right there in the tray. I also noticed what looked like smudge marks on the chrome grill, as if a man with greasy hands had been holding it. Finally, there is some running of the paint on the Autobot symbol on his arm. However, I will say that the chest door alignment is pretty good on this one.

I have never owned an MP-04 so I can't compare. Maybe the QC is even worse on those. I wouldn't know.

Honestly, if you like or are ambivalent about the burn marks, then go for the 2004 (non-DVD) 20th Anniversary Prime instead. Get a pair of long smoke stacks and it's good to go. The QC is much better overall on those than on the second run of MP-01's, and it'll cost less too.

I am less upset about the paint chips than I am the paint running. Apparently die cast chips easily and virtually all MP and 20th Primes have at least a little chipping from what I have seen, but again, it seemed as though the paint chipped much more easily on the first second run MP-01 that I used to have. I have thought about applying some kind of lacquer or other other paint protector to the die cast parts of my second MP-01, but I wouldn't know what product to use. I also suspect that touch-ups would be fairly easy with some fine-point brushes. His color appears to be fire engine red, but no one seems able to confirm this for me. And I haven't the foggiest clue what color blue his feet are.

ouch...now that is discouraging. i'm saving up for one and by the looks of it, i'll only have the 2nd-run MP-01s by the time i can scrounge enough money for the import cost, as well as eBay bid overruns. but thanks anyway for the report, i'll go see if i can find any 2nd hand 1st run MP-01s for a lesser price here in my country.

The MP-1 second run and MP-4 are the same figures, what I understand is that they considered re lancing MP1 but in the middle of it they stoped that, packing em as MP4.
I know that from a ebay preorder, they suddenly changed the second run MP1 to MP 4 saying that it was discontinued and now packed with the trailer.

My2 cents.

Thanks guys! I am definitely asking my supplier release him to any other buyer who wants one then. If I'm going to pay USD$200 for him it's going to be for an MP-01 first run, not MP-04 crap without the trailer.
