Problems with G2 Slingshot, anyone else have them?

Well my G2 Aerialbots were the first complete set of combiners I have ever had, so as you would expect they are kind of special to me given that I love combiner sets. Now amongst these my G2 Slingshot was the first and so is kinda special to me. However, since 1994 I have had nothing but problems with him. His arms tend to come off easily but not go back on as such, same with his nose and tail sections. So my first Slingshot eventually just came apart on me.

So a few years ago I went to eBay and tried to find a new one to make my set complete again I got a new G2 Slingshot. Again he started to fall apart, but I managed to keep him more or less intact until about a year ago. I was taking apart my combiner sets to find new ways to display them. When I got to putting Slingshot into his bot mode from jet mode suddenly his sliding legs came right off with bits of plastic cracking off, essentially sliding his legs in and out has been ripping his body apart.

So to sum up my long, and somewhat rambling story, I was wondering if anyone else has had similar problems with their G2 Slingshots? Or is it that I'm just unlucky and got some of the defective ones?

I tried going back and using my old Slingshot for parts, but he is having the exact same problems as the new one.

Bingo.

It's so bad on him, I've heard of Slingshot figures shattering.

Wow... that's terrible. I guess I might as well get a G1 Slingshot then to get a complete one. He may look out of place on the G2 Superion though...

So, according to that page, Beast Wars TM Megatron suffers from GPS, but the Takara version should be alright? Anyone got any insight/confirmation/anything on this?

Thanks for the advise Tigertracks, but I think I actually prefer the white Slingshot to the gold one. Besides, I'm a little stubborn about the colours of my transformers and probably won't bother painting them.

The Takara version is just fine. They used different plastics and they do not suffer from GPS at all. I owned both a TransMetals Megatron (American) and the Metals Megatron (Japanese) and the difference was night and day.

Some will tell me I'm just seeing things, but the Japanese version felt more sturdy. The plastic seemed to be slightly more dense. It was definitely put together better, it was tight in all the right spots, not overly so to the point you'd think he'd break just by moving something.

He generally goes for about $20-25.00 on eBay and some online stores (last I checked, though it has been a while, might've gone up some) and he's worth a purchase. He's also more show accurate than the US version as well.

The G1 version seems to be sturdier.

Yeppers. My G2 Slingshot is in total ruin. Not only did his wings break off, but his HEAD fell off.

Tried that with my G1 Hook from the constructicons, that just messed him up, so not going there again

You should use very tiny drop, if you're using superglue. If you put on too much, the surrounding plastic will turn white.

For parts popping out of the socket, or loose joints, you can use nail polish.

As I understand it (I don't have any TFs that suffer GPS), the problem is the plastic degrades. Superglue isn't going to help, as the toy will just continue to fall apart in other places.
