One reason I enjoy TFs is the fact that they can change to something recognisable. Therefore I've never been much of a fan of dodgy 'futuristic' modes that seemed to me to be a cop out.
I love my G1 Metroplex. He's nicely proportioned and built like a brickhouse enforcer. When he transforms to city mode it does look like a city. I like to see a bot mode where you recognise bits and pieces from the alt mode and vice versa, but can't quite figure out the exact transformation process (thus alt modes with visible heads on the undercarriage are sucky to me)
Hence my question on this Metroplex figure here:
http://www.hasbrotoyshop.com/ProductsBy ... 17574&PG=1Is he mistransformed? Or am I right in saying that the alt mode looks like you simply fold bot mode into a doggy position?

He got down to 25.00 in the clearance isle of my local Wal-Mart. I was tempted, but just couldn't get past the alt mode.

That is the correct Transformation. And yes he does look like is one all 4. Which is why I don't use it ever on him. He is either in Robot mode, or in one my custom modes:
City Mode

Star Cruiser Mode:

the city mode actually looks pretty good. at last, a decent place for my minicons to reside!

and starcruiser mode- paint in gray and have a starwars/TF star destroyer!

I like your city mode, very G1-ish.

Yep. The official alt mode is in "doggy" position with a back mounted pooper scooper. That mode sucks, tried it once, laughed, and quickly transformed it into something else.
Bot mode and especially "super bot mode" are another story. I love the super bot mode for this figure. Not only is he big with a cool big weapon, but he does not look very intelligent. I'm serious. He looks like a big, giant oaf and I like that about him.
Another cool thing about Cb Metroplex is the ability to transform him into many custom transformations, like the above posted pics suggest. He is one of the funnest figures to experiment with.
Not worth $45.
Barely worth $25
I paid $15 on clearance and I feel that is about right, even though he is a big guy.

The only reason I have is to complete my giant planet trio and to get the gold leader key for primus.

It's just such a shame that something as huge and awesome as a bucket wheel excavator can just be so... not awesome. Too bad, since pics show off his great robot mode.

I always thought that this:

looked like this:

Back at the beginning of the year I brought this up and several people acted like they had no idea what I was talking about.

That is one cool city mode! Thanks for sharing this. I admit, after months of anticipation waiting for this toy to come down in price I was disappointed with the lack of heft in this bot. The plastic seemed lightweight. but the weapon is cool though.

Haha, I can think of a couple of pics I have that would probably work better than the diplomatic line drawing you put up...

Thanx. It gives the mold a bit more playability. For such a large mode Hasbro could have done a lot more with it.

I really had to be careful about the picture I used to illustrate my point. To no one's suprise, that is about the only clean picture you'll likely find.
