RID Optimus Prime. Thoughts please?

So I'm thinking of getting a RID Prime. I need a couple questions answered, as well as general opinion.

1. Does he have any TECHNICAL problems? (not things like ugliness:P)

2. While price isn't an issue, about how much is he worth?

3. Should I get Magnus too? Is the combining worth it?

4. How big is he compared to, say, Classics Prime?

And then, ya know, tell me if he's cool and why.

I hear his wheels crack.

1. Does he have any TECHNICAL problems?
-No technical problems, he is rated as a level 4 transformation (meaning expert)It is a very intricate and detailed puzzle to transform him, very enjoyable.

2. While price isn't an issue, about how much is he worth?
-he is more valuable than God Magnus, but $40 for a sealed one is fair.

3. Should I get Magnus too? Is the combining worth it?
For sure, I own three of each, three Fire Convoys and three
God Magnus'. That way I can display them in alt mode, bot mode and gestalt mode all at the same time. I love the molds that much.

4. How big is he compared to, say, Classics Prime?
Huge compared to classics, at least double the size of Classics prime in super mode. The smaller prime that is made up of just the from part of the fire engine is about the size of classics prime

And then, ya know, tell me if he's cool and why.

I have both the Takara and Hasbro versions and they are both great, the transformation is the real selling point. When you finish it, you really feel accomplished because the alt mode looks NOTHING like the bot mode. Almost no visible kibble.

You wont regret getting one, RID Fire Convoy is one of the best Primes out there.

1. nothing I can think of. Some people have reported the rubber tires splitting but mine is fine.
2. as much as you're willing to pay for him, but I don't think it's that rare, you should be able to pick one up fairly cheaply.
3. I like RiD Magnus much better than RiD Prime, so I'd say yes. Prime does have better proportions, but I love both modes on Mags and the combined Omega Prime is fantastic.
4. I don't have Voyager Classic's Prime. In non-super mode I'd say he's taller than Classics Starscream but smaller than the Classics Jetfire. Somewhere around the height of G1 Grimlock maybe? Super-mode is obviously a bit taller, more in line with superpants Prime or Optimal Optimus.

He's a fun toy, and there are a bunch of things you can do with the armour bits. Pretty posable, more so in regular mode obviously as the armour does make him seem less stable, but still pretty good in his larger appearance.

This could be said about ALL transformers with real rubber tires. It isnt really a valid reason not to own this guy, if anything rubber tires make RID Prime more desirable.

Just tossing it out there...

1- The tires are actual rubber, if they're not properly cared for they will dry and crack.
1b- Neither mode will be sturdy due to the lego nature of the transformation.

2- Got me, I'll be throwing a loose on one eBay in the coming weeks, Magnus too, for that matter. (Not to mention the Japanese TRU exclusive translucent version of God Magnus.)

3- Yes. The large Prime I've always found silly. My preferred modes are small Prime or Prime/Magnus combination. But highly dynamic poses aren't easy.

4- Unsure, I haven't seen Classics Prime. The attached photo should give an idea, keep perspective in mind. The guy w/ the sword is God Magnus, he's standing a good 10-14 inches behind uncombined Prime.

Why do ppl keep forgetting to compress the waist when forming Omega Prime?

Hehe, that's what I was thinking :P

I don't know why they designed him with two waist movements upward, when you only need the first. :-?

The only real issue, is Priomes waist in Omega Prime mode. Its a little too msall and flimsy to support the wait, so it tends to just flop over. but its not a real big issue. And posing is fairly easy.

2. While price isn't an issue, about how much is he worth?

40 or 50 is about right.

3. Should I get Magnus too? Is the combining worth it?

I think the combined form is awesome. It adds an entirely new level of play to him.

4. How big is he compared to, say, Classics Prime?

In normal Robot mode, I think he's a bit taller than classics. In Super Mode, he's definitely bigger. And Combined with Magnus, he's about twice as big, maybe a bit more. I'll try to take some pics, when I get home tonight.

And then, ya know, tell me if he's cool and why.

He's very cool. Has some of the best sounds in any figure. He's very articulated so can take many poses. His little dinky gun is a bit of a downside, but since he can hold any Weapon from the Unicron Trilogy (Armada, Energon, Cybertron) in Normal robot mode, its not a big drawback.

In Super Battle mode unfortunately he can't hold any real weapons.

And in Omega Prime mode combined with Magnus, he can only hold Magnus's gun.

Overall one of the best figures to come out of a main line in many years.

A very enjoyable figure, I really like the alt mode. The only complaint I have is the lack of poseability in super mode due to the giant ladder on his back. Still looks great in super or regular mode though. I really need to pick up UM so I can combine them.

RiD Prime is one of those figures that you'd probably regret not having in your collection. He's really a cool figure. If you are going to get Prime you might as well get Magnus. RiD Magnus is a pretty cool figure in his own right as well.

I remember when I finally got around to buying them, I was totally suprised by how large they actually were. I thought from all the pictures I had seen before that they were going to be smaller than what they really are.

Get him. Now.

RID Prime is great! I love mine! My only regret is not getting Ultra Magnus to go with him....

A great figure, and quite large too!

Def worth having RID Prime, he's got a great super mode, and his base mode is cool too. And Ultra Magnus is great on his own, but the 2 combined is awesome in plastic.

And kirbenvost, can you show the rear of your Omega Prime? I want to see how you attached Prime's ladder and other leftover bits, that looks awesome! Thx!

Thanks, and sure!

I've actually got a few pics detailing it:

It looks cool and everything. but I wouldn't feel comfortable subjecting Prime's tiny ballerina waist ratchet joint to all that weight. It bends just by looking at it as it is. It would be a real shame if it snapped under all that weight.

Still looks very cool though.

 I like what you did with the shoulders! People have seen my attempt at using Prime's extra bits too.

I prefer to use the ladder as a battle axe and Primes feet combined to make a shield though.

kirbenvost that is one neat fan mode!
I remember one site that had like 6 different fan modes for him, they all looked awesome.

I say get them both Prime and Magnus, they are ace, just Primes hand gun is waaaaaaaaaaaaay to small.

Thanks guys. :) Oddly enough, he's pretty stable, the weight distribution is even and he hasn't fallen over once yet. I have him sitting on top of my home theatre speaker, and I can even shake it a little without him toppling. Granted, I can't pull off any crazy poses because the ratchets just aren't strong enough, but he stands just fine. 8)
