Energon Prime- first hate, then love (long-ish)

So I just got Energon Powerlinx Optimus Prime, because I wanted my also-recently-acquired Energon Towline to have a linking partner that is roughly in scale. (I'm kind of a freak for scale in my TFs, which makes the whole TF life a hard one.)

Anyway, counting this version, I now have 3 different sizes of this particular Prime mold: this Powerlinx one, the Leader class, and a little one that is actually a transforming pen. It's very accurate except for the legs, which are both combined into a single piece. That pen was the first one of these Energon OPs I got, because it was a novel mold that I'd never seen before, and it was cheap. The kibble-laiden alt mode I dismissed as required for the simplicity and cost of the toy pen, you know? Then I saw Energon Prime up close for the first time, here in the galleries, and I couldn't believe it was almost exactly like the little toy pen! I was stunned that such a freakish alt mode could exist, esp. on an Optimus Prime.

Fast forward some time now, to when I started collecting TFs again w/ the movie and all. I found myself wanting all these different versions of Optimus Prime that I never knew much about, like Armada and Cybertron. Lo and behold, the bug hit, and I got an Energon Leader Prime. I liked the combiner aspect and overall size. Then I learned a Dlx-size version existed that could Powerlinx w/ others, and then I got Energon Tow-Line, and he needed an in-scale PL partner. So now, after all is said and done, I have 3 sizes of this mold that I started out really hating, and now I like it a lot.

Anyone else ever fall for a particular mold or design they had initially hated? I imagine the movie toys might fall into this category for many of you.

I was like that with the Prime from the Cybertron line for quite some time. That alt mode was really off-putting to me, and he looks sort of emaciated and wobbly when in box. However when I got my hands on him, a chance to actually play with him, I fell in love. Such a great leader class toy. I usually display him with at least the leg attachments and the face plate up and the "ears" back- since that back pack thing takes up alot of space.

I still haven't picked up an Energon Prime, but I've been flirting with the idea ever since I first saw pics. I sort of regret not picking it up for cheap in retail, but then I have been pretty indecisive. Unfortunately the only mode that really impresses me is the combined form with Wing Saber, although the truck mode is actually pretty nice as well. It's on my to-get list, but it's not high priority.
