the only Soundwave that I have is the Japanese Encore edition. He comes with Laserbeak.

TRU Classics one can store 2 tapes, but it looks weird in tapedeck mode as the chest is protruding.

Personally, I got the Takara TFC reissue...

Go with encore one, and then pick up soundblaster latter since that is all so called classics one is, he is just a repaint of soundblaster in g1 colors.

And about $45 cheaper.

Go for the TRU Soundwave if you can find him for around $50. You get a Soundwave that can hold two tapes and because of this, comes with two tapes. Ravage and Laserbeak.

Get the Japanese version aka Encore. Its got functional weapons unlike the TRU version which is basically a Soundblaster re-color. Also, try getting the TFC Soundblaster, you won't regret it.

I'd go for the TRU classics as it can hold and comes with two tapes.

I keep seeing Soundwave in my local TRU for £25, I know when I finally decide to pick him up they will have sold out.

He was one of my favorite figures back in the day but I'm not so keen on him now.

I got both, but have only opened the Tru edition, one because i have decided that i preffer the encore edition one the way it is, as well as the Tru near me seems to have plenty so if i decide otherwise i can always go back.

I'm wondering whether or not to get the Music Label Soundwave. It appears more accurate to his cartoon appearence (the red visor helps), but I've heard it's a bog-standard MP3 player and I'm careful about my spendings just now. Is he worth the money?

Ravage is exactly the same as the original. :P

If you're a purist and want an accurate Soundwave, get the Encore. If you like the idea of having 2 cassettes, get the TRU Reissue (Classics). I wouldn't get the TFC version because it's so expensive, unless I was trying to complete the line.

the one where he can fit in 2 cassette tapes sounds sweet to me!
as long as it comes with the back panel to hold the batteries in.
I thought I saw a version without that which was like wtf?

They should all come with the back panel, the one you saw must have been incomplete.

On the subject of Soundwave, the Encore release is wrong in the sense that it comes with Laserbeak instead of Buzzsaw.

I got the TRU Soundwave already, even the box was "false advertising" sort to speak as we all know it's a Soundblaster repaint by now and I didn't exactly like the clear plastic tape deck door.

It seems that some of you have got the Encore release and seem to recommend the Encore release, is the acquisition worth it? :-? The main question is how is the quality of the Encore release for Soundwave? Many thanks in advance for anyone's input.

The quality of all of them is the same.

As far as I know, Encore does come with Buzzsaw, not Laserbeak.

Specifically speaking, all of the Reissues have not been entirely accurate because the play/rewind buttons are the same as Soundblaster, not Soundwave. Apparently, they lost/broke the mold for Soundwave, so they had to use the Soundblaster one and reverse engineer a single tape door.

So if you really want a 100% accurate Soundwave, you have to get an original G1 toy, not a Reissue. Since finding a good one is rather expensive and difficult, just go for whichever one you like and is most affordable.

So at this point, if you like two tapes and don't mind the double door, get the TRU version. If you don't like the double door, get the Encore. The TFC version isn't worth it because it costs a lot more.
