To Collect MISB or NOT?

How many are collecting figures and leaving them MISB (in addition to) open figures.

I am thinking about buying and keeping unopened only the FAVORITE figures of the Transformers Population (or at least those figures that I deem great and are still available)

Example:
Classics Jetfire
Alternator Rollbar
Alternator Ricochet

(not that these two alternators are favorites, but they do increase in value dramatically as time goes on)

So, 1) would you or do you collect an extra figure to keep it MISB

and

2) which figures would those be?

I doubt those two Alts will rise in value. They are the two most unpopular in the line.

yeah, those are the 2 easiest alts to find. Open 'em and buy another set ... it'll be really easy to replace them.

I am all caught up on my MISB/MOSC movie collection, but with all of this repaint crap going on ... I kinda wish that I didn't have them now. I have almost everything loose, too. I didn't see the need to get 2 sets of scouts.

Classics I have all in MISB/MOSC. I have a loose set as well. I didn't bother with the Legends class, but I have everything else ... including the mini-con teams.

Alternators/BT/BTA/KP ... I have all loose, except the ones that I have not opened yet. They are just too expensive for me to have 2 sets.

If you're going for a complete MISB line, start with classics. It's relatively small, yet completely awesome.

Jetfire and Prime are the easiest to find, so don't expect them to go up in value. Try finding an original Megatron, starscream, and TRU Soundwave. That's pretty tough, but doable.

I always thought that leaving Transformers MISB was cruel to them. Go watch Toy Story 2.

At one time most alternators were easy pickins'.
Even Mirage, which for some stupid reason I never picked one up.
I've found that Skids, which is the one around me easiest
to find, is my favorite robot mode. He looks tough,
too bad his weapon sucks.

I tend to keep the more expensive ones, like my ehobby,
misb.
I used to collect nothing but misb of other toy lines
but got out of them due to lack of interest.
I have a few misb that I find myself wanting to open though.

Toy Story isn't real and you are not being cruel to them
if kept misb because they are not alive.
Keeping them misb lowers the risk of loosing weapons,
breaking and the such.
Take my TM Dinobot, his metal paint is cracking and chipping like no other :( , but the BM Rapticon(same mold, dif colors)
is misp and has no prob. Same deal with my BM Jetstorm
vs botcon Cyclonus. I gotta think the chipping has something to do with the handling of the toy.

Can we please keep the negativity to a low on this.
Telling a person what to collect because they aren't popular
is really crappy. I wouldn't have some of my figs that
I love if I bought them based on what someone else thought
was 'cool' or 'not cool'.

I keep all of mines MISB/MOC. That's just the way I collect, plus I dont have enought space to display all of them with my other stuff that I collect. Then you dont have to worry about losing any weapons. Plus I like how they look in there package.

I completely get what you are all saying, about popularity and easy to get. However, I think popularity really is a subjective thing, and full line collectors will get even the less popular figures simply to have the fill line.

So that brings us to "easy to find". Which is exactly my point. Right now, while you have the chance to pick up MISB these or maybe another figure, would you and which ones?

Just like toys sold in 2003, the current shelf figures will be hard to find in the future, and their value will increase, popular or not.

Thoughts???

why don't u just keep them mib and do a combination of both. display them out sometimes and put them in the boxes sometimes. obviously some lines like alts and classics would be tough but things like reissues are perfect for the mib collector.

I do MISP, mostly. I got the Leader class figures of the Movie line, and they have to be opened at some point (damn batteries...), but the rest I keep packaged. I mean, with all the kids/collectors opening up their figs, surely MISP TFs will be insanely hard to find in the future?

I open em, and keep the boxes cos they are teh pretties.

All my figures are in tip top shape, and are in a smoke-free environment.

Truly, they are like mint. And they still get played with a helluva lot. I would never be able to not open a transformer. I MUST understand what makes them work!!!
