Advice on Prime Collection Please

Good day all,

I finally got a hold of a first issue MP-01. Has everything I wanted except it wasn't MISB with the ties removed. That forced me to take him out and actually play with him, and this guy is a real work of art.

I put him together with my Movie Leader Prime and I think they look great together. So I'm thinking about starting a collection of Primes out of box. However I don't want to buy everything because I won't be able to afford them all, and frankly some look like crap. I'd rather spend more on a few very good Primes than buy them all just for the sake of having more.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should start looking for? Preferably Leader or Voyager class, with good articulation that looks decent in both modes. Any must haves? Thanks in advance!

Get a G1 re-issue prime for nostalgia, and a G2 Laser rod prime, then get the classics prime and you are all set.

Classics prime is a must, and maybe alternators prime.. Never get Energon 'fatimus' prime

Well, except for the size requirement, THS-02 Hybrid Prime is excellent.

Is the leader class Cyberton Galaxy Force a good Prime to have? I picked him up today and he was an impulse buy.

Not exactly a Prime, but I find Optimus Primal looks great besides the few Primes I have. Not to some tastes but if you're a pro-BW kinda guy then try & grab him.

Classics Voyager Prime is approximately 127 kinds of awesome. And, as Geekee1 said, THS Prime is fantastic, apart from the size thing. The little dude is more posable than me, and he comes with loads of cool accessories. Oh, and he makes a great Mini-Me for a larger Prime.

I'd also like to suggest G1 Star Convoy Reissue, best Prime box art ever!

G1, G2 lazer rod

Classics voyager, THS G1Prime, Cybertron Leader class, Armada Bendy Prime, Armada Leader class (Counterpunch will love me now) Bw Optimus Primal, skip the Transmetal Primal and get Optimal Optimus, Movie Voyager and last but not least RID Prime, those are must haves in my opinion.

Skip G1 Prime. You have MP, you don't need the Brick of Nostalgia. I really like my Powermaster Prime, but he's a brick and it's just nostalgia talking there too. Skip the Armada Primes as well. Oh, stay away from Star Convoy. Brick and a half right there. G2 Hero Prime is very meh, you're better off picking up the G2 laser rod Prime.

The THS 02 prime is worthwhile. If I hadn't stopped collecting when it came out, I'd have that and the black version. (Yes, I like black versions of Prime though not everybody goes for them.) Robot Master Prime is also nice. Not the die-cast goodness of THS, but still a nice piece. RID Prime and Magnus are a very sweet combination. Also the Cybertron Prime, as mentioned below. Those are a pretty good starting point. Big Convoy, while not a Prime or a truck, is nice in robot form as well.

Thirded! But if you get RID Prime, you gotta get Ultra Magnus too...they look great combined!

Hybrid convoy looks awesome, and his size is just right if you stick him next to a really good combiner. I've got mine leaping up at Classics Devastator.

Air Attack Optimus Primal is pretty awesome but to posterity's sake I would also have to recommend God Ginrai and Star Convoy. Super Bendy Armada Prime is also worth a purchase.

I started out wanting to collect Primes as well, and ended up getting most of the black variants plus my idea of the top Primes:

1. MP-1, although mine is the Hasbro battle damaged one.

2. Revoltech Convoy - while not Takara/Hasbro, still a very fine toy based on Pat Lee's design. Superb articulation as well.

3. RiD Omega Prime (Mine is the Jap God Fire Convoy) - looks fantastic, size wise is as tall as MP-1.

4. Cybertron Prime (Mine is the Jap Galaxy Convoy) - looks way bad-a** in super mode. One of my favourites.

5. Movie Prime - I have a soft spot for this guy.

Based on my owning the various OP molds that have black repaints, I have to recommend Hybrid Prime, and G2 Laser Rod Prime as well. Although the latter really looks 10 times better in black as Scourge...

Not so keen on the Fire Guts version but I like the Nucleon Quest version. I only have my rubbish 80's original, though, non-retractable fists and all.
