Quickie about G1 Cyclonus

Why do the grey fins on his thrusters/in his hands move? The instructions don't even mention them.

They don't move very far but I've always moved them when transforming them into robot mode so that he ends up with two grey "fins" either side of his wrist, but looking at pics of the toy on the internet nobody else seems to bother moving them.

Even in Ryan's photogallery they're in the same position as in jet mode:

Move them where? Do you have a pic?

And I'll check mine when I get home this afternoon and see if I can figure out what you are talking about.

Yes, I appreciate I didn't explain myself terribly well. Anyway, to prove I'm not a drunkard with far too much brandy, here are some pics.

The first one shows how it moves down on his right arm:

The second is a close-up of the corresponding piece on the left arm:

The third is his right hand:

and the fourth his left:

Do you see what I mean now? There's nothing about this piece moving in the instruction leaflet that came with him. He's not the TM version, by the by, but the earlier one.

Yeah, I see what you are saying now. Perhaps there is a difference between the Target Master version (whicu I have and might be on this site) and the earlier version. I'll have to check it out when I get home in a couple of hours. Thanks for the pics!! :D

No problems. I do notice that in Ryan's photograph there is the grey gun, which would indicate that the version in the gallery is not the Targetmaster version. Who knows? I can say that mine isn't the blue-eared version, so maybe there is a difference in editions anyway.

Okay, I checked it out. Now that I put my hands on mine again, I remember looking at this feature in the past.

First, I have Targetmaster Cyclonus. (Just need the Targetmaster eventually.) All purple, no blue ears. And yes, the arm fins do indeed rotate.

However, when the fins are rotated all the way, the fists don't fit in the proper place. In plane mode it doesn't make sense to have the fin rotated. To have them partially rotated also doesn't look that great to me.

Plus, when I watch the Movie or the toon show with Cyclonus in it, he had fins on his fore arms (or upper arms depending on the point in the movie.) So I don't know what the design intent may have been, but I think the result is that those jet fins on his fore arms don't need to move at all.

I think you might be right. There's no reason for them to rotate in either jet or robot mode. Strange...

From what Ive read the blue eared verient is a rather rare example of Cyclonus. I cant remember exactly but I think it was comnpaired to a modern testshot.

The blue ear and belt Cyclonus was made in Japan, the all purple was made in Macau. Blue ears is a little higher quality toy.

Does it actually feel any different? Is the difference in quality noticeable?

I consider extra's like this to be the Transformer's equivalent of 'bling'.

As long as my TFs don't start playing awful music really loud on their mobile telephones then I am happy.

When the Burberry Arcee repaint comes with a buggy and giant earings gimmick, then we will know Chavformers have 'hit the streets'.

There is no visible difference in terms of quality between the 2 as far as i know. However Cyclonus with blue ears is definitely rarer and higher value. How I wish I can get my hands on blue eared Cyclonus :p

I don't know why this is, but I never liked blue-painted Cyclonus. I prefer blue-painted Scourge over non-painted Scourge, but for Cyclonus it's the other way around.
