Wow that is pricey, i wonder how much an Alternator prototype/test shot would fetch since i have one :-?

Given that there appears to be no paint and the plastics themselves are coloured id say your sense of smell is faulty

Either that or instead of a custom, we're talking bad KO here...

I think it's a real proto!
I've seen it before and said "No way am I gonna pay that!"
It's not a good toy and it looks horrid.

The tail's a different color than the rest of the body.

I'm calling bogus on this one.

Oh good call!!!
I didn't notice that at all. I'd have to agree then, bogus, maybe like I previously suggested, a KO?

Yea, and if you look closely, you can see the gold paint on the tail!

I think the actual price would depend more or less entirely on the mold. Alternators like Swerve, Hound, Prowl, Decepticharge or Mirage would definetly fetch for more than the other, more common molds.

I'd still expect any prototype, let alone an alternator prototype, to fetch a hefty sum.

Also, check yer PMs! :P

So the shoulders were on backwards at the test shot stage as well then. Hm. It's hard to tell but it looks like the neck connectors may have actually been put together right on this one. It's amazing that once you've knocked the pins out and swapped the shoulder assemblies around how obvious it becomes that the thing was designed that way.

When I did mine I followed a basic tutorial by 1987olds442 at Transtopia. I've just found it again and although the pictures are no longer up here's the instructions.

Shoulders
1. I unscrewed the the two screws in the back of the upper torso.
2. Take the srews out of the shoulders.
3. Remove Shoulder covers & slide arms off.
4. Knock out the pins that hold the shoulders in place.
5. Swap the should base assemblies.
6. Swap the upper arm pieces.
7. Re-assemble.

Neck

The black tabs are easy, but also a pain..

1. Knock the pin out of the back piece then remove.
2. Knock the pins out of the tabs (the pain part).
3. Swap tabs.
4. Re-assemble.

I'll post some pictures of mine shortly to give you an idea how it comes out.

A few points to note. The screws on this sucker are REALLY tight, if you take a crack at this be careful not to gouge the heads. I did end up scarring the plastic around the screws slightly when I had to switch to a larger than ideal screwdriver for better purchase, take care. You can't just swap the shoulder covers as each side is matched to the upper arm assembly beneath so you do need to do a full tear down of the upper arms.

Looks the same to me. Only the screws went from front to back.

Yes, that's the whole point of the mod. It's hard to illustrate with pictures but the neck does lock into place a little better with the flaps switched as well.

Which flap? The black thing on his neck?

Back to the topic at hand, look at his other auctions, the guy has more prototypes and more k.o.'s so the potential is that both could be right, but I am gonna have to call Prototype on this one. Probably later stage when they were working on the tail/weapon part.

The price is simply outrageous. I can't imagine anyone willing to buy it at that price. Except the state-sponsored Transformers museum.
