Energon Chip/Star Variations

In the energon line, only the Omnicons had energon stars or chips. When the combiners where released the limbs also had chips/stars, but I'm wondering if there was a variation of the type of chip included with the Figure.

TFU.info shows Terradive with a cog type chip.

While my Energon Terradive, and Ryan's here in the galleries, has a star type chip.

Was this a common occurrence? Did they just not care what type of chip they packaged with the figure as long as the color matched the Energon weapon?.

Granted they are both equally useless, but I'm still curious.

Maybe it had something to do with
when they were released. My terrorcons came with the cog-style I believe. But recent releases, like S7 repaints come with the star-style. It will be interesting to find out more about it.

hmm, I don't have a lot of my energon stuff at this apartment, but I don't remember any autobots having the cogs, I remember them all being stars. Of course, I ended up getting a lot of superlink stuff and that pretty strictly follows the cog/star standard.

Intresting :-?

I'm guessing that was a mix-up on the part of TFU.
While it is an awesome site they are not infailable.

Mine, and every one I've ever seen, came with the star chip.

I don't think TFU is correct.

Decepticons had the cog, Autobots the star.

Yeah, it's a mistake on TFU.info's side. The blue cog-shaped chip probably came from one of the Constructicon limbs (most likely Sledge or Duststorm).

They have cogs listed for Treadshot and Windrazor, too.

Interesting...

So basically Decepticons had cogs, while Autobots had stars.

And tfu.info just mistakenly gave Terradive a cog.

if you look on the picture of Terradive in "attack mode" he has the correct chip. I think tfu.info linked to the wrong pic (the cog) by mistake instead of linking to a pic of the star chip.

The pic under Carded shows the Four pointed star. So, it's safe to assume there was a mix-up with the pix for accessories.

O.k, mystery solved. tfu.info linked the wrong accessory pic.

All Terradives and all autobots came with the star type of chip.

Decepticons have the cog.

Thanx guys I just never looked at the big picture in TFU.info's entry just the accessory pic.
