From Generation one till Today, What gimmicks and Extras have we now lost?

I can't help feeling that in gaining articulation over the years, we have lost the playsets, and extras we came to enjoy in Generation One toys..

Generation One extras lost, Hasbro will not produce in the future:

Prime's trailer

Megatron's extra attachements, nerf gun attachments would just be a slap in the face..

Ironhide's Trailer

Ratchet's Trailer

Giant transforming Bases

chrome coloring

workable diecast, frames and other parts that would add to the toy, instead when Hasbro did Titaniums, they went and did solid chunks, instead of just parts here and there..

Ball and chains and energon axes

Triple Changers ( with the exception of the "Animated prototype" I have yet to see a real triple changer, whose body actually is 3 different altmodes.. Cybertron Megatron doesn't count..

deluxe-sized headmasters and targetmasters. no, minicons don't count. 8)

Tidal Wave and Nemesis Breaker.

skywarp-2 wrote:Giant transforming Bases

Not really true...

Omega Supreme (Energon) transformed into massive vehicles for minicons. Prime, both Armada and Energon did the same. Actually, so did Primus and Unicron.

skywarp-2 wrote:chrome coloring

Thank Jesus.

Again, thank Jesus. All plastic is the way these toys should really be.

skywarp-2 wrote:Ball and chains and energon axes

Very very wrong. What did every Energon Omnicon come with? Energon Spears, blades, axes, etc.

skywarp-2 wrote:Triple Changers ( with the exception of the "Animated prototype" I have yet to see a real triple changer, whose body actually is 3 different altmodes.. Cybertron Megatron doesn't count..

Energon Scorponok. Classics Astrotrain. (Hey, there weren't that many G1 triple changers either!)

Why don't Minicons that turn into weapons count as Targetmasters? Certainly, they're not Targetmasters in name but isn't their functionality the same? I don't see much difference between Triggerhappy's use of Blowpipe and Vector Prime's use of Safeguard.

Neither did Triggerhappy.

Now he has AIDS. :-(

i mean Targetmasters marketed as a subline - minicons don't really count IMHO because these guys weren't actually marketed as a weapon for their respective partner, more like gimmicks that activate features in the toy.

though you have a point there, Vector Prime and others are exceptional homages to this G1 subline.

and before CP beats me to a punch :P,

E. Omega Supreme and Overload both are technically headmasters - but we need to see voyager- and smaller-sized versions of these cool toys.

Robot points - I want 'em back to mess with MISB collectors  ... and square packaging that you can actually stack easily would be nice again.

Didn't I read that there were rumours of a base or playset when animated comes out?

Technically... they're Japanese style Headmasters. Omega Supreme and Overload are actually the Minicons which become their heads.

Does G1 Springer count? What's the difference between a 'real' Triple Changer and an 'unreal' one?

Anyway, I agree we could do with a few more bases to carry on the legacy of Metroplex and Fortress Maximus. Another 2-foot Transformer, please!

Classics Astrontrain sure. Scorpanok, Cyb. Megatron, etc., I have a hard time counting them as triple changers. I know they have three different modes, but I'm with skywarp-2: 3 different modes, not a robot mode, one vehicle mode, and then another vehicle mode that is a slight alteration of the first. G1 Blitzwing, sure, all you did was turn him over and make a few modifications, but jet and tank modes looked different enough to be two different vehicle modes. Cyb. Megatron, which I do love, looks like a car of some sort and then a car of some sort with a split front end meant to now serve as jet parts.

Scorponok is pretty distinct. Bot, Ship, Scorpion.

I know, but he is an example of a modern day 'triple' changer. Hell, you can have one robot with like 16 modes, I don't care. The more modes the better (RID Galvatron!). I would just like to see a real triple changer, is that so wrong? Won't someone please stop the insanity!?!?!?!!?

Yeah, but sorry, I misquoted you. You didn't mention Megatron.

You could probably do that too. I doubt, with Cybertronians being a race more advanced than ours afterall, that Cybertronian law would be so biased towards keeping the stupid ignorant of their stupidity.

I know the tech specs weren't this involved....I just wanted to get a piece of the action. Now I'll probably get banned.

"We need to find some one with all 10's!"

"Look Cerberus has all 10's!, Cerberus, transform and prepare for battle!"

*Insert transforming noise for Cerberus*

"Cerberus, all 10's and you just transform into a Generator?"

"Sorry guys, it's not really my tech spec, I'm just carrying it for Fortress Maximus, and I'm not just a Generator, I'm also a Head."

Then Prime comes in and yells at everyone for making fun of Cerberus.

Cerberus runs from the room crying.

What about soon to be Classics 2.0/ Universe OCTANE?!?!

I wouldn't quite call that "lost".

Cassette bots, now those are long gone, as a cassette is NOT going to blend in anymore.
