I am getting back into trying to complete my G1 guys, and have run across this question.

I have mostly reissues of all the current guys, but have not gotten any KOs yet, with the exception of the china version of Fort Max from RID. Although those dinobots are tempting.

I have never owned G1 Megs and a few other guys that are out right now, and would prefer to have their instructions as well.

Megs is readily available from the encore line now. They have no real changes from original 80's molds and are cheaper to get than a vintage one.

So I'd go for re-issues.

Go for Japanese if you do get reissues. US ones are botched up thanks to Toy Safety Laws

The encore figures seem to be the way to go - they're much cheaper. And the packaging isn't that bad.
