I was just looking over US patents for Transformers and I noticed that the parent for Ultra Magnus has a thinik where you combiner his head and chest plate to make a sorta jet thing... I don't have the toy. Can you do this? It's on page 8 of the patent.

Also, anyone know who this gun transformer is? Takara owns it, maybe a Microchange line?

BTW - It's really fun to browse around the patent office. Look at this "Composit Toy Vehicle Assembly" patent.

I knew the diaclone one had that feature (I also suspect there was a few more bits to it). It has always buged me that the chest was suposed to do *something*.

Here is a neat one - page six of this patent is Bumblejumper! He shares a patent with Sunstreaker.

Yup, that's one of Takara's alright, maybe Hasbro were planning to have him as Megs at one point, or were planning to release him as well as Megs. Who knows.

Yes, it can be done. I never really noticed before but it does work.

We didn't get all the instructions for Ultra Magnus over here... probably since it wouldn't make much sense to make UM a launch pad for the Decepticon Seekers... (But in the Patent you provide a link to, they have the trailer in that mode, with the 'jet thing' sitting on it...)

If you can check out the Diaclone commercial for Battle & Powered Convoy, you'll see all the different modes...

Is there anywhere we can see that commercial? I don't think it's on here.

Similar to Convoy's roller the chest piece was suppose to be a smaller vehicle for the Diaclone pilot.

I was looking last night at some photos of a complete powere convoy, and it apeared the 'roller' like veichal was more of a kit that roller is, and it wasnt obvious that it included the chest peice, though the photos werent the most self explanitory in this case.

Yes, here we go, as far as I can see the 'roller' thing is an entirly seperate entity that was supplied in a little box within the main powered convoy packaging.

Can you say Galvatron? _>

As for UM, yup I played with putting the head on the chest "flier" when I had him as a kid. I thought it created a pretty ugly combination so I didn't do it much.

And that google patent thing is really cool!!!

I found a link to a page that covers that revolver...

A pretty neat figure, but I'd take Megs any day...

I could have sworn that the picture on the front of the box for Ultra Magnus showed the plane/launch pad transformation. After searching for a picture of the original box, I happened to find one on ebay. If you look in the upper left corner you can see it on the box.

Also I happened to find a Blue paint scheme Diaclone Prime:http://cgi.ebay.com/Transformers-G1-Diaclone-Ultra-Magnus-cab-bonus-Prime_W0QQitemZ150099531392QQcategoryZ4696QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item150099531392
