HI, Im confused by these different releases of soundwave.
Im looking for a soundwave release that, unlike the Takara reissue edition,
does NOT have the "hinge" (correct english word?) that holds the cassette-door "externally" attached to the rewind/forward buttons.

Wich release should I go for? - Thanks.

Are you referring to the Takara Transformers Collection Soundwave that was produced about 2 years ago? I wasn't aware that it had an external hinge.

What about the Encore?

Does that have the double-door too?

Brothers, there aren't any existing molds left for the original Cassette man aka Soundwave anymore. If what you mean "external" hinge, that's because starting from the TFC version, they are all based from the G1 Soundblaster mold.

No double door, but external hinge still present.

I think what Rockbot means is the location of the hinges, while the Soundblaster mold has the hinges to either side of the buttons. The Japanese Soundwave mold has them above the buttons.

Like so:

Current Encore Re-issue

American Toy's R Us Classics Re-issue

As you can see the hinges on the Us version are to either side of the buttons to compensate for the double cassette door.

While all other releases have them above the buttons, and tucked in.

So far i have not been able to find a picture of Encore Soundwave with the hinges on either side of the buttons.

Actually, the picture used for encore is of the original 1984 release. The door hinges are inside the chest. The Takara reissue, encore, and TRU all have the hinges down beside the buttons.

You are correct. :)

I've noticed that I can actually open his chest piece if I simply twist his right leg a certain way too.

I stand corrected. So none of the Re-issues have the hinges inside the chest. Meaning it an entirely different mold. Interesting.

The picture above is the soundwave I want. No extra thick play buttons ro accomodate for the external hinges either side of the transport-buttons
So if I understand correctly, that takara picture of the "encore edition" shown above is actually false/not correct.
And does NOT depict the actual soundwave-mold you will get??
wow..
I thought special toy makers were quite anal about these things and only depicted the correct molds they actually produced.

guess not..

If anyone else has the encore-edition, please post some pics of the cassette-door.
