Armada Hotshot as Smokescreen?

PostPosted: Tue Mar 20, 2007 11:06 am

I told a buddy of mine I was looking for a Universe Smokescreen for my Classics line. After some initial confusion I realized he thought I was talking about the Armada tow/crane thing rather than the repaint Hotshot I remember. He called bullspit and said it doesn't exist and that I'm remembering Powerlinx Hotshot wrong. I know the difference between red w/ flames and blue w/ numbers. Can anybody back me up on this?

Are you talking about Hotshot/Excellion?

Or Crosswise with his repaint Smokescreen?

[edit]Pic linky if it works...

I think you are talking about this:

http://www.tfkenkon.com/collection/act222/

This version was a planned release in the Universe line but was later cancelled, which is a shame.

Boy, that goes back there. I was thinking the only Smokescreen I remember was from the Cybertron line. At least in these colors...

The only reason I remember it so well is because I wanted this version

Well, just be happy with the Crosswise repaint, which was, in its own right, pretty dang sweet itself... Apparently the market is already too saturated with Smokescreen for another G1 homage repaint.

What do you mean "too saturated" for "another" Smokescreen repaint? The Universe one was supposed to come out 3 years ago! If it was "too saturated" your Crosswise would've never made it off the drawing board. Not to mention the two Wheeljacks, Soundwaves, Shockwave, Starscreams, Ravages, and the whole Classics line. I'm kinda ticked and kinda relieved about it at the same time. Ticked such a sweet toy got cancelled while they choke our aisles with their Minicon dead but relieved because, thinking back, I didn't like the Armada Hotshot to begin with. Too simple in an almost 123 Transformer way. So close but so far I guess.

Man, I really liked Powerlinx Hot Shot and really would have wanted this guy too. Except I just wanted a red Jolt because he looked better than the first version. I don't understand my love for that Mini-Con. I simply don't.

The Universe line should have never been cancelled. For a line made up only of repaints it was one of my favorite lines. I don't mind repaints as long as I like the figure, and some of these figures were better than the originals, in my opinion (looking at you there, Tigerhawk.....)

Yeah, the Universe line was pretty cool. I would have so picked up that Smokescreen if they had released it, cause Smokescreen is my favorite G1 Autobot that appeared in the show.

I also prefer some of the Universe repaints to the original versions, which I didn't have anyway(another plus for Universe). Ok, so I got most of my Universe guys on clearance, but that should discount my liking of Universe Night Slash Cheetor(better colors, in my opinion), Blastcharge, Repugnus(great little figure, love the beast mode), and last but certainly not least, Frostbite, who should have been a Pred to begin with. Easily one of the coolest looking beast modes out of Beast Wars, and the color scheme is great.

The Universe line probably would have survived if they had released more Japanese only molds, like with Overbite(exceptionally cool cause he's only slightly different than the original release), and Big Convoy(still overrated). It would have helped if the Micro combiners weren't so stinkin overpriced. $4 for a single Micro and a combiner piece? Exactly why I didn't buy any, cause it was such a rip-off in my opinion.

I agree more Japanese only molds would have helped. I wish we could have gotten both BWII Lio Convoy and Galvatron.

Not to be an ass but if you didn't buy any of the micro combiners, you certainly have no right to complain about the line going away. That's active contribution to its' demise. I loved the little guys and the Universe line in general and supported it by buying the product. If you don't show support for something, it goes away. Hell, I paid $5 and tax for each of the Aerialbots from CVS stores. It was the only place that had them near me. So I paid it. I still hope that there are little releases here and there down the line.

Why wait for those releases in Universe though. They can both be gotten ridiculously cheap from liqdeal on ebay. Unless of course, you want recolors of the molds.

yeah I always wanted that figure. Too bad hasbro decided that the Universe line needed more of the Armada Sideswipe mold. :?

The number of times they have used that mold boggles my mind. The mold is one of my least favorites. And on top of that they released the figure twice with a different name but similar paint job.

Well chalk up another stupid move by hasbro.

This would have been a very sound and collectible repaint of smokescreen imho.

I have a thing for Cybertron Runamuck, and there was a purple Decepticon version of this (Oil Slick? something like that...) that I won on eBay but it was originally part of a two pack, and I like that one cuz of it's colors, largely though for reasons unknown.

The two pack had the repaint runamuck and a repainted version of beast machines black archnia.
