I was getting ready to remove the canopy cover from Skywarp (to see if I could do it without hurting the fig, before moving on to 'Scream & Ramjet), and noticed something I've never seen before, nor have heard anyone talk about on any message board...

The turbine fans rotate out!

Why do they do this? What purpose could those joints serve? I'm so confused right now...

Uh... it's supposed to be landing gear (lame).. and I think it's shown in the instructions?

Landing gear for jet mode? I don't think I've ever seen a jet mode with them down, so I can't say for sure.

Probably looks pretty dumb with 2 wheels at the front...

Yep, they're landing gear. Because of the way the nose cone is designed for transformation, they couldn't install the standard single front landing gear in the nose, where it would normally be. As a result, they had to come up with a different solution, and, turnong those "fans" into the landing gear was what they came up with. Given the transformation, that was really the only option other than to forego landing gear entirely.

My Starscream's instructions doesn't have anything about any landing gear. I just looked it over with a magnifiying glass to make sure I inspected every tiny little facet of each diagram. I threw my Ramjet & Skywarp's instructions out before ever reading them.

I apologize for pissing so many people off on so many different message boards with a stupid innocent question.

Teaches me to ever ask for help ever again...

EDIT: Maybe someone can help me find it, because apparently I'm blind and stupid. I'm assuming this is the same step someone previously posted on another board:

When I look really hard at the darker diagram on the left, I can kinda make out the landing gear. Yet, it makes no mention of flipping anything. Didn't know I needed a magnifying glass to play with Transformers. Not to mention all three of my seekers came out of the package with the fans in the front, not turned to the side. So, with no instruction and nothing to transform, how was I supposed to know what these were!?

That's odd. On my instructions, step 3 has a little arrow showing you that the landing gear flips closed... :?

His instructions are misprinted, which is why that part of the step is missing. It was probably one of the first shots off the press, and no one caught it until later in the run, and it had been packaged. There are probalby a few more copies like that out there.

As for pissing people off with "stupid," innocent questions, you aren't pissing anyone off. One thing my mom always taught me is that there is no such thing as a stupid question, only stupid answers. If you don't know something, ask. It never hurts and you will never learn if you don't ask.
