And if it IS real can I get some info on AFA grading?
Too bad my friggin mom gave all my Transformers away when I was like 14 (because I hadn't played with them in like 8 years...ha!). Now I have to try and buy them all back because I like to collect them...what a kick in the beanbag!

From my understanding of an earlier thread that is a knockoff. Someone correct me?

No, it's real! Not a fake I was wrong in that thread about the notch in the border. The seller was just using stock images to sell a knockoff.

I spent $135 on it shipped. I figure its a decent price.
Description says:
This Optimus Prime transformer is from 1984. My husband has owned it since buying it when he was a little guy so this is THE REALL DEAL!!!!
The box has a few war scars such as one bottom front corner and one back corner are worn and a bit torn. Other than that you are getting a perfect boxed PRIME. Please look closely to the pictures for condition of the box. He has not been removed from the box in over 20 years until now so that I could make sure that he is in working condition, NO ruboff, No missing decals and all original packing inside box is there and in perfect shape as well.If its real I'd like to know about AFA grading to display it. I bought a commemorative TRU to open and display.

You can mail it to certain companies that will grade it for you. Search for AFA grading on the internet. I don't believe opened items can be graded. Because your box has a big gash in the corner, I don't think it is going to fetch a high rating.

So I am confused, how does one identify from a knockoff repro and a real item?

AFA won't grade it, since it is opened and the box is fairly beat up. They can put it in the plastic case if you just want that.

There's a gray border at the top of the window, instead of the color of the background right against the window.

I was under the impression that the white border around the small images meant that it was a knockoff. I could be wrong of course.
Someone else said that the original G1 mould was lost or broken, so any re-issues or KOs would be the G2 mould which has a slight difference in Prime's back in robot mode. A slot for the G2 sound box to attach to.

I could have sworn I saw a link on the AFA site for grading of loose figures....
Of course, that doesn't mean they'll grade it in the box, but rather loose.
