classic mirage review
Mirage - one of the very distinct Autobots from the cartoon, thanks to the absence of "redecoed" characters, and his cool ability to become invisible.
It is said that Mirage was born with a silver sparkplug in his mouth and is a bit of a snob in the old comics. Coming from the elite class, it would be cool to see if IDW can play Mirage's background with Megatron's, ahem, social movement...
In the Classics line, Mirage is a very good and very thin update to the old character, which is probably why he became a pegwarmer before the sale.
He is also the figure with the most and best articulation in the line, which is probably why he virtually disappeared from the shelves after the sale.
CAR MODE

Mirage turns into an F1 racer. Or something that looks like an F1 racer.

It's good that they retained the "26" and would have been better if they added the "CITANES."

As an F1 racer, this mode has a very low ground clearance, but surprisingly, it also rolls smoothly (if the surface is even) with no other parts dragging on the floor!
You know you're old, or geeky, or an old geek when you know what this means.

ROBOT MODE
Deceptively simple-looking, transforming Mirage between modes may actually baffle you a bit, but once you get it, it's pretty easy.
And here, we see Mirage's robot mode. And we discover that Mirage, like any rich socialites, is also susceptible to anorexia or bulimia.

But what he lacks in bulk, Mirage more than makes up with lotsa articulation!

And he passes the kick test!

The thing i love most about this toy is the headsculpt. There's no denying it, anorexic form or not, that is Mirage!

The only problem I see here is that, once the joints become loose, you end up with a robot who is as limp and sickly as he is thin.
ROBOT OR CAR MODE?
Robot mode, of course!
PROS
- great homage to the G1 toy
- smooth rolling car mode despite low ground clearance
- to say that this toy is articulated is an understatement
- great head sculpt
CONS
- apparently, when the old G1 series ended, Mirage developed an eating disorder
RATING
3 and a half out of 5
If you really loved the old G1 cartoon, you'll also love Mirage. Hell, Mirage's articulation makes up for all the old TF "brick" toys in the past, so if you want a very posable and playable TF robot, Classics Mirage is the best!
