Classics Starscream and Skywarp: Trading Faces aka Face Swap aka Face Off

Ever since I bought Skywarp last Monday, I've been dying to replace the unpainted head on Starscream with the very nicely painted head on Skywarp. I'm visiting my Dad here in Milford, MI this weekend for his 56th birthday. We've been having a great weekend. We stopped by the brand new Target store in Fenton off US-23 (which was really surreal). They had the new Ultra Magnus / Skywarp 2 pack as well as a couple of Starscreams. I bought the Skywarp set and my third Classics Starscream with the intention of swapping their heads.

When we arrived back at my Dad's, I successfully swapped their heads. Starscream looks absolutely incredible with a properly painted face. I will be putting my original Classic Starscreams aside and will be using the modified version for future galleries. I'll probably snag a few pictures next week to add to his existing gallery so that I can have the properly painted face one as the primary picture for the figure in the galleries.

If you have an extra $20, I would highly recommend buying an extra Magnus/Skywarp set so that you can fix the head on your Starscream.

I'll post the new pictures next week when I get back to Chicago from Michigan.

Can't wait to see it.

I still can't find the Skywarp/Magnus giftset.

That encourages me to have my wife do a little touch up job while we've got the paint out.

I've been doing/done a pretty good job with Vector Prime, but this would require a bit steadier hands than I have.

Even flat gray might look better than the translucent gray.

what bugs me is why does Starscream's head look like Skywarps head, but unpainted.

really Starscreams head should be a off black, becuase Skywarp and Thundercrackers head are identical, because they are brothers, aren't they??

But even in RM, Screamer, Skywarp and Thundercracker's heads are the same.

Which is really not right, even in he cartoon, his head was slightly off black or a dull grey.

:BOT: Very clever idea! If I'd tried that and were talented enough, I'd try to add a smirk on his face. :CON:

Due to the pins involved, this isn't as simple as it might seem at first eh?

I actually thought about doing the same thing also, but like counterpunch said above, it wasn't as simple as I thought. I don't have anything to knock the pins out. I'm just hoping Hasbro will still do another wave with a better paint app for SS.

Yeah, you have to know how to knock out the pins. You can usually use a small flat rivet and a small hammer to knock it out. The head swap between the two figures took about 10 - 15 minutes altogether.

I'm jsut gonna use a toothpic and silver paint to touchup my Starscream. I've already drilled him new holes on his lower arms to hold his guns so they don't slam into his wings. Which I'll end up doing with my Skywarp as well no doubt.

Though if I could find some over sized RM Starscream guns those would look far better I think.

As promised, here are some quick pictures that I took that demonstrate how much better Starscream looks with the head of my 2nd Skywarp figure.

Poor Skywarp. He lost his luster.

I always liked SW better than SS or TC anyway. And I'm glad I found the two pack this afternoon. SWs paint is far superior to SS. Nothing to touch up this time.

Glad I waited to see how it turned out. IMO starscream looks goofy now due to the fact his face is silver, and his body is still grey. As the same but vece versa for skywarp.

I will keep buying them and kitbashing the hell outtta them though. Just gotta make THrust now.

Actually, Skywarp didn't. I have my original one that I left alone. I only swapped heads on my 3rd Starscream and my 2nd Skywarp. I like Classics!

Ahhh, looks pretty good Seibs! Me, I'll just have to settle for Gundam marker style fix up. Doesn't look as bad as I thought too. Gave him the darker face a la G1 cartoon.
