Ah, Machine Wars kinda sucked. The rarity of this figure is the only thing about it that appeals to me. Its essentially just a prototype of Prime/Thunderwing unpainted. What proof is there that this was intended to be Menasor?

That I don’t know, just thought it would be worth mentioning. There is a link to some art that was unreleased as well, but again, it may not be enough proof.

I'd F&P it if I had the authority cause it is an awesome find, true or not. I really like prototypes and testshots, getting a glimpse of what a bot could have been and what not.

Great find none the less Nekoman.

An auction on eBay has surfaced for what is claimed to be a prototype for the planned, but un-released, Universe Menasor figure. The figure was planned to be a repaint of Machine Wars Optimus Prime.

See the original artwork for the character, by TF artist Don Figueroa, by clicking here.

See the auction for the supposed prototype by clicking here.

For continuities sake, and my man Neko who posted this already, here's the original thread.

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=35358

It's awesome seeing the artwork and that this could be an actual prototype.

Wonder if Counterpunch is gonna buy it? :-?

It doesn't look half bad... should be Motormaster, though.

I do need this mold(one of the only Primes I'm missing), and Don as usual did an awesome job on that pic, but realy, I'm glad this didn't happen.

Sorry d00d, but that image is more likely to have been done by Dan Khanna. (according to the bottom of the page anyway) :P

Don's style is quite distinctive, even when he was forced to conform to the Dreamwave 'house style'... :-B

A repaint of the Machine Wars Prime version?

That's a huge meh in my book, the original of the mould Turbomaster Thunderclash is ten times the figure MW Prime ever was.

Yuck, the Turbo Master original looked okay but it's a crummy mold.

And I hate that Motormaster looking guys are always being named Menasor.

It's the best they can do since they no longer have the copyright on the name...

But, for god's sake, let this mold lie in it's grave...doesn't it have like two points of articulation? It'd be better if they redesigned the backend to merge with the cab...

Fixed (on the main page anyway - if I edit the original post of this thread I'll lose all the URLs for some reason...)

No repaints for classics  Get real combiner 5 differnet figures that can combine and have good poseability. They did it in 1986 they can do it now

Five different figures? Yes. Poseability? Not what G1 was really known for. :)

As for this figure, what really kills it for me isn't the brick-iness of the mold, but the exceptionally poor usage of color. So many of Hasbro's pieces suffer from TMCS - Too Many Colors Syndrome. Once you exceed three colors on a mold, it just becomes too garish. This one's got dark versions of blue-green, blue-violet, and red-violet, along with bright yellow-orange and black. That's just too much for my eyes, personally.

DaVinci's rule of three worked back then, and works now. Use three elements (like colors) in proportion: 3 parts of the main, 2 parts of the contrast, 1 part of the accent. 5 is simply TOO MUCH.

</soapbox>

This isn’t classics, its Universe, a line that came out a couple years back and consisted of nothing but repaints.

Yeah I know the universe line, I have 5 toys from the line which are all horrible repaints. I just thought now that there's the universe/classics 2.0 that universe wasn't going to do anymore repaints but it seems I'm wrong

Well some characters you have to do as repaints, like Prowl/Smokescreen. Sideswipe/Sunstreaker I was disappointed with at first, but at least they're being clever about it.

But I'd really like to see them just forget all about repaint potential and just do a decent combiner at least once.

I think $500.00 is a little bit much but I'm sure someone will bid on it.

The worst Optimus Prime mold, ever.

I'm really glad this repaint never saw the light of day. Also, I pity anyone who received this toy as their first Prime, or just received this toy at all.
