Jetfire & SkyFire

.
I always loved my G1 Jetfire. In the end I lost all the pieces and broke him. If he was capable of being re-issued, I would buy him again in a heart-beat, but I do have a question though.

How come there hasn't been a G1 SkyFire figure yet?

I know that Jetfire was supposed to be some sort of substitute for SkyFire, at least that's what most of us believe, but I don't understand why after all this time, he hasn't been made. Whether he be a limted or exclusive character, since he would mainly be for us G1 fans, I think its time for him to get his own toy. He could be roughly about the same size as the G1 Jetfire toy. With all the Re-issues that have become so popular of the last few years, which proves that there is a market for original transformer toys, he could easily be included. Classics Jetfire sort of payed homage to him and the original Jetire. The Encore line doesn't have to be complete re-issues, they could add some first-ever-made G1 characters to the line up, Right??? :D

There are plenty of JetFire reissues.

They're just part of Macross though. Get a Veritech and some reprolables and there you have it.

But yeah, due to Macross, I don't think either Hasbro or Takara would ever touch this mold again, it would cost way to much.

Maybe I wasn't clear... :D

I want a SkyFire Toy, not a re-issue Jetfire, though I would still buy that also

I misread, but as you wrote Classics JetFire is pretty close, maybe with some custom retooling...

I wonder what would chop up good for parts?

you havent been doing your homework

jetfire was never intended to be named skyfire. they had to change the namr in the cartoon, because unlike the toy, they did wornt alowed to use the name jetfire in the cartoon. because macross had thier own cartoon.

you know what? look it up on wiki.

anyways, do what all of us does that perfer the name skyfire over jetfire, just call your classic to by a diffrent name. its not new to call your transformer by a diffrent name then on the box.

example, cybertron/movie armorhide can be huffer/pipes

I would love to see an official MP Skyfire myself. Just how many years that would take though, I don't even want to think about. I would agree that Classics Jetfire is the closest we've seen to Skyfire in the actual original show.

I'm well aware the Jetfire was never intended to be named SkyFire. I was just stating that most people considered the Jetfire toy as a stand-in for Skyfire due to similar alterante modes....

I guess I just can't explain anything right

Does reprolabels have a conversion kit? 'Cause I think I'd rather buy a new figure and put new stickers on it for cheaper rather than buy an old figure for alot more.

Hah, good luck with that. Most of the actual Macross figures are at least as expensive if not more expensive than Jetfire itself. I paid if I remember correctly about $80 for my complete G1 Jetfire. He has a few minor scratches and paint wear but nothing terrible. But I paid over $150 for my 1/48 scale VF-1s Hikaru Ichijo Valkyrie with fast packs to make it complete. Even the 1/55 scale figures aren't all that cheap. The VF-1S with fast pack (which is Jetfire) tends to run around $100+.

That is true!

And I know ReproLabels has an "Evil JetFire" package, so I'm just assuming they also have the normal

But yeah, Macross stuff normaly is close to $200 usualy more. Last year I got a relpacement complete JetFire for $90 off Ebay.

I still have mine from when I was a kid, one of the only things I can say that about, the joints are tight, but 90% of the armors gone as well as the canopy. So while he is still active, he has a nice clean version for the shelf.

Wiki isint a great place to do homework  and it wasnt an issue that they werent allowed to use the name Jetfire in the toon as you suggested.

Truth be told there isint enough evidence to really say 100% correctly why the change was needed.

But what we do know about the change is that The real reason behind the change had nothing to to with the U.S. at originaly. The Robotech toon was not airing in the U.S. at the time.

But in Japan Macross had been running for years so Takara could not have a character in their TF line looking like a Macross figure.

So changes had to be made to the character's apperance so as to not be accused of ripping Macross off and infringing on the copyright to the original figures design.

So the Jetfire design was abbonded in the toon and the Skyfire design was made.

As for why the name was changed in the U.S. the best guess is it was because of Hasbro fearing being fined for "False Advertising."

Hasbro felt that they might get fined for false advertising if they had gone along with calling the character in the toon Jetfire.

The toy and the toon character bore even less resemblance to each other the the rest of the G1 toyline to date. With the rest of the G1 toyline up to that point.....at least one of the toys modes resembled the character on the toon.

So to avoid being fined they changed the name in the toon to Skyfire.

I have two words for you kiddies...Harmony Gold.

They with the help of Carl Mayek(spl?) took three different anime series, i.e. SDSF Macross, SDC Southern Cross, and Mosepedia(spl?) and turned it into the Super Epic Space Drama, known as...ROBOTECH.

So they took up all of the rights to the Jap series to be produced in the US. Therefore taking up the rights to all of the toys to be made here in the US by Matchbox.

Meanwhile, Hasbro, was shopping for toys(in Jap) to be produces under the TF moniker. They got the 1/55 VF-1S Valkyrie and made Jetfire. However, the animation studio would not design Jetfire, due to the complete likeness of Macross, so they designed Skyfire. No toy was created for this and it was assumed that kids aren't smart enough to know the difference.

Now, Harmony Gold and Matchbox are pissed at Hasbro, and something happened, what exactly, I don't know, but it involved lawyers.

Now no one is allowed to sell those toys(valk...err..veritechs) in the US except HG.

Any Macross toys must be bought from Japan. They are illegal to be sold as Macross in the US, due to HG ownership of ROBOTECH.

It's all BS, but that's for the Lawyers to straighten out.

Personally, I would love to see a Skyfire toy. However, it seems unlikely, due to all of the Copyright BS.
