I've officially upped the ante for the galleries this year ... Minerva is mine!

In addition to getting my first "prototypes" of upcoming figures on eBay such as movie Ratchet and the first 5 objectformers, I've also ventured into the beginnings of finishing off my Japanese and European figures. Given the excellent quality of the following figure I won from ministry_of_toys on eBay, you better believe that I'll post pictures of this figure as soon as I receive it.

Yeah, I can't wait. I've been watching for a decent version of Minerva on eBay and Yahoo Japan for quite a while. It seemed like even the yellowed versions of her were going for $300 - $400. I've never seen a perfectly white version show up on eBay before in the 2+ years that I've been looking for her. This figure was about $150 more than I wanted to spend on her but suppy and demand dicatates price. I couldn't find a Minerva worthy enough for the galleries on this site until this one so I had to do what I had to do to be able to finally present you guys with a Minerva and Nightbeat gallery. I can't wait!!!

So what's the story with the Minelba to Minerva translation again?

'r' and 'l' are pretty much interchangeable, as are 'v' and 'b'. But 'Minerva' makes sense to Western ears (Roman goddess of crafts and wisdom; as Minerva Medica, she was the goddess of medicine and doctors) while Minelba doesn't. That's the story, I'm pretty sure.
I suspect that the character was always intended to be named 'Minerva' due to the Minerva Medica reference, but the Japanese pronunciation of it comes out closer to 'Minelba' and the person re-transcribing it into Roman letters presumably either didn't get the reference, didn't get the difference in pronunciation or simply used a katakana lookup table and didn't worry about the result. For reference, the Hepburn romanisation of the katakana on the box comes out as 'mi-ne-ru-ba'.
--EDIT--
Oh yeah - nice catch, Ryan! But damn, that's a lot of cash...

Nice condition of the box and figure. I saw a MIB Minerva sell for Y30,000 in Japan but it was not nearly in good condition as yours.
Congrats.
In the MasterForce series the human kids became Headmaster Jr's.
It's been awhile since I watched MasterForce but if I remember everything correctly, the cars were lifeless - the kids just used them as cars or they could transform the cars into a body for the suit they were wearing (Transform! Head On!) Good series, I need to watch it again though.

Awsome find. Does this mean we'll see galleries of the other Headmaster Jr.'s? I don't have any of them, but the Decepticon ones look pretty cool.

What Kranix said, but in addition, the Japanese Headmaster Juniors were just repaints of existing US releases. The were the small Headmasters, the figures were carded. Minerva was a repaint of Nightbeat.

Yea, they were like Mechas, and the suit the kids wore, as well as the seats, became the robot heads.
I think in Victory, Minerva was alive.

Aye, at the end of MasterForce all the God/Head Masters came to life. God Ginrai was in Victory as well which I thought was pretty cool. I haven't finished watching Victory yet, I need to do that soon.

HOLY WOW!

Don't think I could part with that kinda coin for a TF. Good find, boss. It's a nice mold, I have the KO Minerva, and it's definately a cool Headmaster.

Nice haul! I had been eying that same auction and briefly considered parting with the money, but I just couldn't justify it because I had just spent $250 on an Overlord.
Hmmm . . . time to start socking money aside again, methinks.
