Botcon Free Attendee Figure Is Ricochet--Jazz Repaint

PostPosted: Fri Feb 29, 2008 9:13 pm
by Tigertrack
The free Botcon attendance figure (with purchase of Primus package) has been announced, and it is none other than a repaint of the Shattered Jazz in red and white, called Ricochet!

You can see the Botcon site for more information about the convention and the other set figures that have been revealed here

This is an unprecedented move by the club, but they want folks who will not be able to purchase this year's collector's set to be able to see what free figure they will be getting if they choose one of the other options available.

The Botcon set is being discussed here.

Ugh, that is supposed to entice people to drop 400 some bucks?!?!

Not a snowball's chance in hell.

Yeah, best of luck with that.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan. I would rather have seen a Sunstorm repaint of some sort to give us another 'Con... 'MEH!'

Not bad still not worth 300 for the set

So it's a repaint of a remold of an already repainted figure. Classy.

How **** underwhelming. :?

What an obscure, random TF to choose from.

Ya know, this year's BotCon exclusives really suck. Suck hard.

That is actually what Iwas expecting.

All this does is make me miss this year's exclusives even LESS.

ditto it seems sad the lengths people will go to to get some crappy repaints. $100-150 i can understand but 300 is pretty steep for some slight remolds. :?

I hope the add-ons are killer... But so far I only really want Starscream, and maybe Grimmy from the set--maybe Goldbug. Well, and Razorclaw because I am a 'Gotta' Catch 'Em All' dude...

Making me want my second set less and less...Jazz and Prime, and Ricochet are not really doing it for me.

What I don't understand is how they have made enough of these
'free' figures to go around but not enough of the actual '08 sets to satiate the masses.
Almost seems like they did this on purpose just to get rid of a
Botcon set that is filling space in their warehouse.
It's almost insulting actually.

Well that saves me about $100 because I won't be buying that off eBay.

Such a disappointment.

I like the rest of the set, but I have no interest in Ricochet.

What part of free involves a paying hundreds of dollars? I don't get it.

Not loving this character one either.

I just wish they bothered to make a single G1/Classic Jazz repaint of this head remold. Neither is a good "classic". Shattered Glass is not interesting to me, I really am only collecting things for their "classic" value. Neither paint job is classic enough, and sadly, we will probably never see a classic Jazz now with these guys and the Animated Jazz being out.

Also, the reuse of names is getting old. Timelines Ricochet? Wasn't that a 2005 cyberjet figure? Kinda like the twice-used Timelines Dirge name (insecticon and Classic jet)?

I actually like the Ricochet character, sorta like the Sunstorm of Autobots, a cult favorite that came from something obscure.

I even like the toy, the paint job is pretty cool.

However, other than being a repainted Jazz there's little that makes you think of this toy as "Ricochet"

I think they probably could have done better, but I thought the same thing with clear Mirage last year.

They probably made close to one ricochet for each box set made. We already know that the Iacon packages(for which you don't get ricochet) sold so many that they had to stop selling the iacon package. Therefore they have quite a few of the attending figures left over. I really don't think there is anything shady going on.

The sets sold out faster than they thought they would. It happens. Why people think there is something malicious going on is beyond me.

It's amazing how well this set sold with so many people bashing it.

I could nitpick a few things (and have already) but I think it will make a nice addition to my collection.

I'm curious how many of the "haters" end up buying/trade for some of these figs down the line,

It doesn’t look like Ricochet.
