Do you re-name figures in your collection?

Last week I bought a number of the Wal-MArt repaints, one of which was Big Daddy. However, I find myself calling Big Daddy Override instead, no idea why it's just the name that popped into my head. I also call the Movie Scout Warpath Road Rage, and I even removed the Autobot symbol on his shoulder and placed him with my Decepticons because I thought he fit better there. I also re named RID X-Brawn and Prowl to Annex and Trailblade based off of characters in my Heavy Metal War line up.
So I was wondering, does anyone else re-name figures in their collection?

I do the same thing, most figures I just let slide, but other for whatever reason I have to rename.
Take RID SideBurn, I got him befor the US release the same day I got an imported Hot Rod. Since I don't read Japanese, and his bot mode looked like a mish mash of parts, I names him Hot Rod Scrap.
A completely different figure is Movie Megatron, I renamed him Fury because although he is from a Megatron, he's an offshoot of the liniage in my Collection
Armada Unicron is Ferox Unicron because that was written all over his box when I first got him, while black Unicron is just Unicron.
Then we can take Optimus Prime, I have alot of versions of this guy, for each I use a intrest point on the figure as part of the name. Should it be a feature, a type, or whatever, I take that pair it with Convoy ususaly, and thats their name. They are still all Optimus, which is a title same as Prime is. I don't feel weird about that cause even the first Optimus Prime wasn't origionaly called Optimus Prime.
I can keep going, but I think you get it.

I don't really know if i rename them, but i definately consider them other characters that they resemble. The example was already used but again downshift to me is Wheeljack! Look at his head! The new tankor figure coming out is Octane! I really don't know why they do that!

I don't tend to rename figures because no matter how many times I called them a new name, in my head they'd still be called what they are on the packaging. I think the only time I would rename a figure is if I bought a different figure with the same name. Like if I bought movie Overcast (which I'm considering) I would have to rename either him or my minicon Overcast.

My Universe Downshift is gonna be Wheeljack. Energon Shockblast is Sockwave, Universe Tankor will be Octane, the Classics Constructicons are named after the G1 Constructicons, Classics Rodimus is Hot Rod, Armada Unicron is Unicron, Classics Tank Megatron will be Bludgeon. I mostly try to give everyone G1 names unless they're an original character then I use their current name or give them their own name.

Actually, Downshift was originally named Wheeljack in Japan.
SO yeah, I do thatr with him, too.
Another one I renamed was the black Spychangers Ironhide, which is painted a lot like Trailbreaker.
I actually repainted his head to be more accurate.

Energon Downshift is called Wheeljack by me.
Actually, I like using the Japanese names a lot.
Though for all the Japanese Primes, I make it something like fire(cybertron) or overweight(energon )Convoy.

Due to the drought I anticipated I've bought some figures which in an ideal situation I probably wouldn't have. Movie Cliffjumper is Hornet, Final Battle Jazz is Powercut. My KO Legends Leobreaker, because of the alt-mode and colours (red and grey) is Lionhide, but that's just me being silly..

Interesting answers. I'm looking to get an Energon Downshift for my collection to be Wheeljack. Though I have several different versions of Bumblebee in my collection and I've been trying to find some names for the two movie versions I got.

The Energon Wheeljack is a lot different from G1 but is probably as good as you are going to get for a "new sculpt" Wheeljack unless of course they put one in Classics.
Not a bad figure, really.
Just avoid the Universe Sunstorm...

The Japanese Superlink Wheeljack is a better version of Energon Downshift and makes for a better Classic Wheeljack.

I know the Japanese figures vary a bit, what's different with Wheeljack/Downshift?

Cybertron Downshift as Wheeljack, and Cybertron Cannonball as Ruckus. To me, there's a resemblance.

Absoloutely not.
As someone who gets called different names because people mis-hear my name or are just plain stupid, I find it quite rude to call something or someone a name that isn't theirs.

I know how that is, being named Jarod people always call me Larry, Jerry or anything that sounds close. I started going by my middle name, Dustin. I rename TFs though but only to ones that suit them better and I never give a funny name like Cheesebot or anything.

I get called things that aren't even remotely close.
I understand where people are coming from. I think the best case for renaming is Energon Downshift. Clearly it's a homage to G1 Wheeljack, but to me, canon material has him as Downshift, therefore he's Downshift.
I just can't rename a character when it's been given canon treatment.

My MP-03 stands with Skywarp behind Takara US-Ed. Starscream, as a nameless grey Seeker.
....I call him Seeker.
Man i wish MP Thundercracker would be released.

I think everyone who recalls G1 Wheeljack call the last two "Downshift" molds Wheeljack. I do this with a few other figures, and I'll probably call universe "Tankor" Octane.
Generally speaking if a figure is an homage to an old character, I'll call it by the name of the character it homages.

Yup. For me, Rodimus is Hot Rod, Tankor will be Octane, and Energon Inferno is G1 Ironhide (and sits amongst my classics).

I name them however I feel they should be named. In most cases, I leave it alone. Movie Wreakage works well for me, but Booster 10X? That's Laserbeak in my book. Same with Cybertron Armorhide. I still have my G1 Pipes, and to me, they're one and the same.
And ofcourse, Classics Rodimus is Hot Rod. Decepticharger is the Stunticon Dragstrip, same with Shockblast being Shockwave.
Besides, you purchase the figure, it's your figure. You can call it whatever you want. I don't think I could ever call G1 Powermaster Prime by the name of God Ginrai (or whatever).
Now I just need to find a good name for Movie Stockade, who is just an awesome mode. Same with Hardtop (

I find all these responses really interesting. I'm the same to most of you, I tend not to rename most of the time, but I did some renaming of some of my figures lately and I started this thread to see who else did so.
I also call Classics Rodimus Hot Rod, and I will call Universe Tankor Octane, I just can't call them anything else. I also like having each figure to have a different name to though so I keep trying to find a name for my two different movie BBs.

Energon Divebomb is Banzai-tron
G2 Road Rocket is Rad while RM Road Rocket remains unchanged.
Argentinian White Cliffjumper is Bugbite while the Green one is Tap out
Got custom repaints of Movie Wreckage and Clocker as Bludgeon and Hot Rod respectively
RID Prime is Fire Convoy
RID Magnus is Impactor
G2 oversized KO Combaticons are Mega Octane, Ro-tor, Armourhide, Rollbar and Mo-vor using the RID names for their corresponding molds
When I eventually get Energon Tidal Wave, will reuse him as Broadside
Shockblast is Shockwave
