WST Devastator!

Sure, Hasbro may have released an updated Devastator in Micromaster/Minicon scale, but are they the same Constructicons we grew up with? So, what's cooler than these modern small-scale gestalts?

Well, articulation and poseability disregarded, this is.

Image

Down-sized bootleg Constructicons! A few years ago, I also bought a down-sized Devastator, but this version is truly WST!

The back of the card shows the instructions...

And check out the new bootleg names...

DEVASTATOR

Out of the blister, you get the complete gestalt. What's impressive is that at first glance, all of the details of the original size seems to have been faithfully captured and reproduced.

Image

And yes, from these pics, you really can't tell that it's WST so...

Image

...here's my sunglasses to show some size reference.

And here's Classics Prime making fun of WST Devastator's height.

With Classics Prime and WST Fortress Maximus...

Okay, now, the plastic is a bit fragile and thin in some places. While WST Devastator can stand up, he tends to slouch forward because the plastic can't effectively support its weight.

CONSTRUCTICONS VEHICLE MODES

Okay, pics don't do them justice. Seeing minicon-sized G1 Constructicons will even make Megatron laugh with glee.

Image

Attack mode! Yes! Some kibble won't fit some of them, but generally, it's all good!

Here are the included accessories...

Image

Also included are two handguns (Long Haul's and Bonecrusher's). The Drill and Fist attachments are detachable, and are no longer spring-loaded.

CONSTRUCTICONS ROBOT MODE

Image

Some stickers were not applied, leaving some robots feeling naked.
Surprisingly, no shortcuts or cheats were utilized in the transformation process. These small robots transform the same way as their bigger counterparts!

WHICH MODE?

Personally, I really like the separate construction vehicles mode. But in order not to lose some of the parts, I recommend keeping the Devastator mode.

PROS:

-faithful reproductions of the original, larger toys
-you can hold all six of them in the palm of your hand
-you can play something like this:

CONS:
-plastic is a bit on the flimsy side
-easily breakable in some parts if handled roughly

RATING:

3 out of 5

Very interesting bootleg, and it's a novelty! I wonder if the Scramble City WSTs are more stable, though...

I got two of those a year and a half ago. They are very cool and well made considering their size. I also got a WST Defensor and the quality of is the same (shame Hot Spot is red though). Also Devastator looks great taking on the WST Dinobots.

"Sanitation" is now my new favorite transformer name - even if it is a KO.

Please can anyone explain why my 'yellow carded' WST Mixmaster has nonfuctioning wheels. The pictures here shows Mixmaster to have freewheeling wheels. Is this the larger 'blue carded' WST and not the yellow carded version?

I think I got that for about $15 .... maybe $10 at Chinatown many years ago. It's a neat TF, even if it's a KO. They also made Bruticus, Superion, and Menasaur but I only bought Bruticus and Devestator. FYI: Bruticus comes with a just-about in-scale WSTF Motormaster. He's just a little larger than WSTF Prime in vehicle mode.

I picked up the yellow version at Big Lots a couple of years ago for $4.00. He's decent, I just got him for the novelty.

My photo showing the two different shrunken KOs with my G1 Devs... from over three years ago:

Image

I <3 shrunken KO gestalts. The Devastators seem to be amongst the best of these, haven't had these break at all yet (unlike the shrunken Menasor and Valdigus).
