Stand ins for G1 favourites in your classics collection

I was going through the various TF toylines and building the ultimate lineup of non 'classics' molds that would display well with the official classics line.

I figured I would get some takes on this from you guys as well.

Now this doesnt include any molds repainted for the classics line like huffer or A3. I am talking molds that would fit in well, but werent intended for that purpose.

Here are some of my favs.

The new movie mudflap as classics erector
Energon Rodimus as Rodimus Prime
TF collector's club exclusive Astrotrain
Superlink Wheeljack
Movie Big Daddy
Movie Warpath
Energon Inferno
Energon Scorponok

I think all these molds would fill out a classics display very nicely.

Any more ideas?

The new collector's club Nightbeat will work well for this lineup as well.

Whilst smaller than it's G1 counterpart the Music Label Soundwave fits very well with the Classics.

The superlink version of downshift (wheeljack) works better for a classics wheeljack as his body is grey instead of peasoup green

Repaint Energon Twoline into Ratchet and Ironhide(unless you want to buy the Botcon versions for $500!) Downshift as Wheeljack, repaint Cybertron armorhide into Huffer, Cybertron Smokescreen as Smokescreen, pretty much all the alternators could fit in classics if size dosen't matter to you

I think we are kind of moving away from the topic here, you could repaint any mold into many different characters, and alternators are completely different in terms of aesthetics.

I was hoping to see some unique ideas on classics standins, ones that look the part and do not require kitbashing. Its also a little weird that noone seems to read the previous posts, the same names have been repeated a bunch of times already.

Anyone with some unique ideas?

Hate to burst your bubble Overcracker, but if you read my first post, movie mudflap as erector was my very first idea and the entire reason I started this thread.

The Target scout Strongarm and Crosshairs make decent Brawn and Outback standins.

Not mentioned yet:
Energon Superion
Energon Bruticus
Energon Arcee
Energon Ultra Magnus
Energon Galvatron
Energon Omega Supreme
Energon Star Saber
Cybertron Blurr
Cybertron Leo Breaker as Razorclaw (I repainted mine, not much but still)
Cybertron Scrouge as Hun-Grrr (or Abominus)
Titanium Scourge
Movie G1 Jazz

Timelines Deathsaurus is amazing with the Classics
Timelines Megazarak

EDIT:
Energon Battle Ravage
Energon Insecticon as Bombshell (the one repaint I DO want to see)
Cybertron Metroplex
Cybertron Override as Minerva from Headmasters (she's a homage to her after all!)

I'm going to keep updating as I remember more.

Not to piddle on anyone's loafers here, but am I a total jerkwad for saying that I hate doing this type of thing? Maybe I'm just overly-anal, but I can't stand mixing TF lines... I like all my Classics to be with the Classics and all my G1s with the G1s, and so on.

I'll admit that some figures could possibly fit with different lines, but putting a TF from Cybertron in with my Classics display would annoy me to no end. :-( The only possible way I enjoy doing that is if I'm displaying the evolution of the same character through multiple lines...and that's it.

Don't look at me! I'm hideous!!!

No, no, you're not hideous. Merely horroribly disfigured.

Kidding. Well, about the disfigured thing. Probably.

It's just that with so many homages coming out in recent years but in no real order or pattern leading up to Classics, it's easy to lump them all together. A lot of fans didn't really get into the AEC lines except for the rare homage like say, Energon Downshift. We're just falling back on what's familiar and taking an across the board awesome line like Classics and fleshing it out with the G1 flsshbacks that preceeded it. Hasbro even got in the game with Classics Devastator.

It's just sharing the love.

I can see your point...I even proudly display my Classics Devastator with the rest of that line, even though it's obviously not a "Classics" mold.. But even then, I think I only let that pass because it was recolored and packaged under the "Classics" name (or spirit, anyway). To each his own is the bottom line here, I just can't seem to get into that sort of thing like most of the rest of the fandom seems to...

I think that classics is a unique line for this sort of thing, I dont think there is another line that would allow for it, at least not without looking like crap. Classics molds have a certain look and feel to them, and the fun is finding that appeal in other lines, the best pickings are the unicron trilogy of course.

I believe it was counterpunch who stated in his "why I love" articles that he had plans to develop a updated G1 lineup display using bots from Energon, and this was before classics had come out. Superlink Wheeljack and Energon Inferno feel like classics to me, I got the same feeling when I saw movie cyb repaint mudflap or classics Erector as he is becoming known as.

Its not something I can put my finger on, but for me when someone suggests a titanium or movie figure as a standin, I know it wont work, it will stand out and look like it doesnt belong.

I think my thoughts on that are supported by the fact that every botcon or collectors club or retail repaint designed to be classics addons have been from the Unicron trilogy. The Aesthetic matches up very well.

I think of real gear Longview (without the front lenses attached) as Cybertron alt-mode Bumblebee from MTMTE. The head is wrong, but I just keep it in alt mode.

I saw where someone re-painted one as Cosmos too, looked pretty sweet.

Animated Blitzwing could work also, Hasbro said how they were designing him to "fit" into the Classics as well as Animated.

Energon Swoop also could work.

Cybertron Unicron as Bludgeon
Cybertron Armorhide as Pipes
Energon Towline as Skids
Cybertron Brimstone as Swoop
Cybertron Metroplex as Fortress Maximus
Cybertron Sideways as Cyclonus
Universe Oil Slick as Runabout
Cybetron Slugslinger as Sluglinger
Energon Prowl as Slapdash
Cybertron Downshift as Getaway
Energon Landmine as Sentinel Prime
Cybertron Landmine as Scoop
Energon Demolishor as Long Haul
Constructicon Maximus as Devastator and the remaining Constructicons

There are more, but it's late.

Personnally, I'm incorporating Classics and the Unicron Trilogy into a seamless Universe. Where names conflict, I change the Trilogy. Minibots, such as Beachcomber/Hardtop or Armorhide/Pipes will be Omnicons like Strongarm and Signal Flare. Minicons will also stand in for Micromasters, but will be called Minicons. Some Minicons will also stand in for Nebulans. Only TFs in the Deluxe and Voyager size, with some Ultras depending on size and alt mode (no Voyager Red Alert from Armada, I would use the Cybertron Deluxe instead, for example).

A lot of the Titaniums go well with the Classics line. I find Rodimus Prime looks absolutely spiffing next to Optimus. Animated Jazz, Blurr and possibly Arcee could also fit in nicely once they're released.

Ultra Magnus Titanium fits nicely with the Classics. Rodimus Prime I have more of a problem with... he's just not as good as Magnus.

Movie Longarm as Hoist. I'm planning on repainting him as well, whenever I get some cash to spare.

Btw you think tow trucks would be a bit more common as far as Transformers go but that's just me.

I'm turning an Energon inferno into Ironhide.
Energon Grimlock works so much better than Classics.
