Kinda something I was thinking of the other day. What do you prefer in terms of recent repaint exclusives?
Are you more interested in pre-Movie repaints, like the recent Walmart Divebomb and Jolt?
Or do you like the movie repaints like the recent Target Allspark figures?
What repaint series (pre-Movie or Movie) do you prefer or would like to see more of?

I would like some more pre movie toys repainted, like Cybertron Scattershot for example.

I don't understand the pre-movie part.
Nonetheless I generally like repaints as long as I like the figure. I like the Target scouts except for the Arcee and Strongarm repaints but I'm not a very big fan of those figures to begin with. Stormsurge and Warpath and the Skyblasts and Armorhide are very cool though. Walmart Jolt and Divebomb aren't that good but Big Daddy and Grindcore are very very cool. On the whole, the best figures of the movie line for me have been the repaints in movie packaging, so I'll have to say I'm pro-repaints.

I love repaints. I find something about them interesting, especially when there is a ton of repaints of the same mold, sort of like some kind of army.
Which do I prefer from the movie? Pre-movie figures. I like the movie, but the designs are usually so detailed the repaints don’t seem to define them selves from each other, like BB and Cliffjumper, they don’t look very different.
I think that movie Strongarm complements the original figure though, as well as the upcoming Inferno. The older figures just blind better.

I'm collecting all the Movie toys, with the exception of the pre-movie repaints, because they don't really fit in with the overall movie aesthetic.
Of the movie toys I have, I particularly like the Metallic Voyager Megatron - the paintjob salvages a truly awful mould. The G1-style Jazz, Starscream and Arcee are great, too.
The worst repaints are the minor, pointless ones - like the multiple Jazz Legends and the Screen Battle Barricade (exactly the same as the standalone version but with a black Frenzy).
But the daddy of them all is Lawson Bumblebee. He's freakin' great.

To me, any time a figure is repainted and called a new character, I find it to be a 'lesser evil'.
For example:
CC Bumbles repainted red as Cliffjumper: Good
Brawl repainted but still called Brawl: Bad.
That's my $0.02

To me, it doesn't matter if it's an old mold, or a re-used movie mold...
It just has to look REALLY good, especially in bot mode.
Usually, I have to find something appealing to me about the design of the head.
Also, I really dislike bots that don't have at least one hand that has fingers.
They can even be claw-like, but Wingblade for example... I HATE that both of his "hands" are gun barrels.
Incinerator would be cool, but blades for both hands????
Check please!!

Rescue Ratchet(even though I passed on it), wasn't such a bad idea. And Voyager Thundercracker, he got a new head. Voyager Evac, slight retool, seemed like they made a little effort.
The ones I object to are the ones that are slightly more perfect versions, or come in cylindrical packaging for some reason. With that stuff, you just feel a bit cheated. Get it right first time around Hasbro!

I ended up buying Rescue Ratchet and not the original.
I also won Thundercracker on ebay for $6.50 ($15 with shipping).
Still not real interested in Evac, but if the Animated line doesn't get here soon...
Yeah, the Target deluxes look good in those packages, but man, what a jip if you have the originals!!!!

The Target packaging is nice and durable, plus I kinda like seeing them in robot mode.
Overall, I'm liking the repaints if they make something about them different, as well. The straight repaints just don't seem to fit. Deep Desert Brawl is a waste, since Brawl wasn't very important in the first place.
I definantly like the idea of the name being changed when a figure is repainted. Especially if it goes to another classic G1 character, like Cliffjumper.

I wound up getting the Legends version of Rescue Ratchet in a 2 pack. I don't overly mind not getting the puke green version.
Evac, I'm not overly pushed about, and hasn't even turned up around these parts anyway. I didn't follow Cybertron anyway, but the movie repaint seems a case of them making an effort, and picking a decent colour scheme.
As for the 'premium' type repaints, well most of them I could more or less do myself with a dry brush and a small amount of silver paint, if I were so inclined.

For me, a repaint needs to be a new character featured somewhere in a storyline (show, movie, comic, whatever) so I have a sense of its personality. I also expect it to have some sort of remold or extra components to help justify the purchase.

I liked the classics repaints, NOT the Classics2.0/Universe repaints of Cybertron figures, but the repaints of some of the original classics molds like Optimus and Starscream were good ideas, and I expect to see the Universe Prowl mold to become Blue/Silvertreak and Smokescreen.
