What's the best way to do this without damaging the figure?

First of I would peel as much of the stickers off as possible with just my fingernails. Any residue left can be removed with lighter fluid for non-painted areas, painted it would be best to use hot water unless you want to risk the possibility of removing the paint.

Always use the mildest and least abrasive methods first.

Soap + water + a little work usually gets most of it.

Goo-gone or WD-40 are fairly mild.

Rubbing alcohol used in small amounts is usually safe on plastic or metal, but can remove paint if applied aggressively.

Many petroleum distillates, such as lighter fluid, are usually effective but can once again remove paint and in some cases damage plastic.

Idk why you guys want to use all these chemicals, hahaha. About 5 years ago when I took my guitars in for repairs the guys in the shop told me the best way to peel stickers off a guitar is to turn a blow dryer on it at a very low setting and just for a few seconds to loosen the sticker's glue. I've used the same method for peeling stickers off of plastic and it works great.

I've gone as far as taking home piercing studs, so that if it doesn't fit I can reseal it and return it, hahahah. Don't worry, I've never actually returned them, they always fit great.
