Micromaster backstory

I'm aware that Marvel and Dreamwave did their own Micromaster bios and backstories in things like the MTMTE profile books, but did the toy packaging have any official backstory or bios explaining why or how the Micromasters came about?
If so, what was it?

I remember that there was an advert that showed Optimus and Megatron with the Micromasters, which might have explained their existance?
The packaging of the figures only provided the figures individual bios.

The Marvel comics give a pretty good back story, although the actual stories were sub-par. Check the reprint section at
