Is anyone here familiar with a Diaclone Red Mirage?

I seem to recall seeing a Red Mirage somewhere in an assortment of Diaclones.

It doesn't appear particularly abundant, so is anyone here knowledgeable about the rarity of the figure today?

There was a red Mirage released with Diaclone Powered Convoy. The set also came with a black Sideswipe. The set was refered to as Powered Convoy DX. I came across this information while trying to find a Diaclone colored Ultra Magnus, which is esentially who Powered Convoy is supposed to be. Powered Convoy DX apparently features chrome instead of grey and the red Mirage and black Sideswipe were only available in this set. I know that this version of Ultra magnus was released just prior to the Transformers movie. Here is a link to some pictures of the set in case you are interested:

As far as I know the red Mirage should be considered very rare although I can't estimate a value. I am unaware of any KO attempt at a red Mirage. It was only released in that set and I have no idea how many Powered Convoy DX sets were released. I've seen a re-issue of black Sideswipe recently, but assuming Mirage's mold was lost or damaged and there have been no reissues for him, you'll likely never see another red Mirage.

Swerve speaks the truth! Well, as far as I know anyway :P

The Diaclone version of Ultra Magnus included both a red version of mirage and a black version of Sideswipe.

So far E-hobby have only released a re-issue of Ultra Magnus and Sideswipe to date.

diaclone had some pretty awesome playsets..but how could you tell who were good and evil without faction stickers?

Woah, take a step back. Diaclone figures were piloted mecha (thus why the Seekers and early Gen 1 Cars have seats). IIRC there were two fractions - the Gen 1 cars being good and the Insecticons (and some others) being evil. Thus why these guys don't have fraction symbols.

Also wasn't the original Gen 1 cast made up of 3 or 4 different toy lines?

Yes, it was. I bet Maz would know all about this.

Where did the Diaclone drivers sit in their respective versions of Prowl and Jazz? Those toys didn't have seats. Tracks, Skids, etc, did, though.

Both Jazz and Prowl do have places to seat drivers. In Alt mode, you'll see that once you open the car doors there's about an Inch long 1/4 inch deep trench to place a figure.

Maz would know as he's got great knowledge on the pre-TF eras. Bless 'im!

Were there any other figures that were part of this guys army apart from the Insecticons? IIRC didn't the drivers have insectiod heads too?

Ah, I see it on Prowl now. Prowl is now going to be my new hiding place for snuff.

By playsets, I meant the packs with 2 or 3 diaclone transformers in it. I noticed that with my G1s, I tried to sit the landing gear in the cockpit on the seekersm, but it won't fit

I used to steal my zoid drivers back in the eighties and have them as my passengers...

The bugs were the bad guys. But is seems that the Diaclones that didn't become Transformers are neglected, they dont get the "press" the others do. There were a lot of vehicles that combined into robots that were pretty nice figures. I have a few like DiaAttacker, Warudoros, and my favorite, MultiForce (GatsBlocker). I would really like to see a homage to the se Diaclone guys, especially MultiForce, I know Brave had a tribute to him (Might Kaiser), but it would be cool to see a TF homage.

I think this is the best page on Diaclone in general, with several catalog scans and whatnot: http://1500bc.com/pretf/diaclone_toys.html

Couple things of interest, is this just a prototype variation, or did Pre-Devastator look this different: http://1500bc.com/pretf/pictures/construction_vehicle_robo_1_6.jpg

Here's the "Gatsblocker" that was mentioned. I bet it's expensive to complete: http://1500bc.com/pretf/pictures/diaclone_gats_blocker.jpg

I wish they had made the "Ladybug" from Beetras(did they?): http://1500bc.com/pretf/pictures/beetras.jpg

And even though it's Microman, wish they had brought this over: http://www.microforever.com/721formation.htm

I'm particularly amused by the Machine Dragon, the Diaclone villain meant to go up against the Diaclone Dinobots. That's one... interesting figure.

Reminds me almost of Mecha Godzilla but not as cool looking.
