MP-05

Anyone else kinda disappointed by the quality of MP-05 Megatron. I mean they could have used a little more metal don't you think? Great figure poor construction, as Optimus Primal said "Dicast construction, it's a lost art!" What does everyone think?

I see the cries for die cast all the time so I have to ask

What's the deal with Diecast.

Titaniums use them and honestly its a detriment to the figure as it throws off the weight and seems limited in the hooks and joints you can place into and attach to it.

I'm fine with it as is, what does diecast get me?

Dicast is a bit more stable, if you compare MP-01 it holds up better and parts don't just wall off

honestly though MP-01's sturdiness also plays a large part to the fact that the design which is a box that folds in rather than the large amount of work to transform Megatron into a gun and have both bot and alt mode get as close as possible.

If all the shell was die cast he would be top heavy and nearly impossible to stand, and after Starscream had standing issues you know fans would have bitched much more loudly about another MP that can't stand on its own.

Diecast construction is a lost art. Titaniums seem to use too much and cause problems with stability, especially with the design of certain characters that weight distribution is going to be a serious problem with anyways. Titaniums have really seen a drop off in popularity within the last couple of months, then again, nothing new has been released since Ultra Magnus. Judging by most people's complaint of the line with certain figures, especially ones like Soundwave Hasbro might interpret that as we don't want diecast.

I feel diecast is a lot like salt; used sparingly it makes things just right but over use it will ruin things. Besides, who wants to eat a whole plate of salt?

Is there any Transformers where diecast was used in the right amounts?

I think they could have used diecast for his chest, otherwise nah, its fine.

Wow...I was dying laughing...I felt bad for him.

I'm still patiently waiting for A3U to ship me mine. Lord knows when the hell that will be. They claim that it's supposed to arrive by the end of the month. Looks like they're waiting for the end of the month. It seems like every other distributor has gotten theirs.

I'm happy with my Megatron and I just got both of them today. Optimus Prime is cool being able to transform and be all metal, but his legs are pain in the ass to close down, pushing those side tanks hurt my fingers >.>

Megatron however is awesome, even though he isn't all metal like Optimus Prime, he is unique and everything. Only problem is I got paint wear on the side of his head already from putting that one piece that goes over his head. Justittoys is releasing his missing parts for Gun Mode and they are gonna be metal so that will make up for the lack of metal, but still metal or no metal, he is awesome.

there are certain things on certain figures that would be better die cast. for example, mp starscream.

the parts his wings are attached to, that fold up on his back. i transformerd him like 4 time, and then transformerd him to repack him for my move. when i started that last change, i saw that the plastic around the pins holding those peices together was splitting apart. theres a few spot on screamer like this were dicast would make it more durable, however....

hes already got massive stability issues. and the diecast would make it so much worse. some people like die cast, because it gives a nice big heavy metal feel to it. as for megs, no i dont think he should have any die cast.

reason:

omg theres been so much **** with plugs and crap just because he looked like a gun, can you imagin the **** storm if it was metal too? wed have to pay like a $500 deposit, buy a liscence, and wait 90 days to get it!! skrew that

As I pointed out in another thread, die cast wouldnt have worked for megatrons brushed metal look. Check out his chest piece, if they had used die cast metal that would have had to be painted which means it would have been flat with no texture. The only way to get that effect would have been to machine the shape from a solid metal block, pushing up cost and waste material.

They made the right call.

I know. I feel for Dynasis, really I do.

Also, I would LOVE a "plate full of salt" as it were. MP Megatron just needs diecast in his body--his arm/leg/body frames especially.

This just reminds me, I bought the Takara reissue of G1 Megatron back in 2002/03 when I was living in Tokyo. Tonight I took him out of the box to place him next to my MP-05, as I transformed him from Walther P-38 to bot mode, a though occured to me about the original 1974 design to the 2006 incarnation; "How far we have come."

Then I looked at the thick diecast used for G1 Megatron's legs, arm frames, feet, etc. and thought again; "...and how far we have to return."

The lack of diecast in MP Starscream and MP Megatron is shocking to me, but besides this, I have had no QC issues with eithier, and yes, my SS has BOTH faces, thank goodness.

/SS wears his smirk on my shelf, FYI
//Megatron can barely stand
///Prime laughs at them both

Hmmm, an all metal gun toy? Yeah, that'd end well. And be impossible to ship through customs. A whole shipping container that x-rays as full of guns doesn't go unnoticed without a payoff. And, Christ, I'd be afraid to take out the orange plug.

From the many complaints I've heard from people about the various problems with MP Megatron, I'm glad I've got and stuck with my TFC06 Megatron.

Is G1 Megatron really that good? I keep thinking about ordering him but his robot mode is really off-putting.

Anyway, the die-cast levels are fine on MP.

He looks menacing stood on my shelf surrounded by the hard hittong cons....and with the Reprolabels anime megatron uprades on him.

I'd say getting the reissue is a no brainer. Get him while you can. He does also come with a cool con mousemat and a sheet of 30 various sized con symbols stickers

Tempted, but where can I find him these days? Plus it means I'll have to buy a G1 Optimus just so my display makes sense in my head.

I found mine on eBay and imported him from Hong Kong. He's unmodified, but I don't know where you'd get an unmodded one these days thats cheap, unless you try say digital-toys or xybertoys

G1 Meg aka "Trigger Crotch"
-awesome gun mode (best eva!)
-bot mode looks like he needs a wheelchair
-expensive

Classics Meg aka "Moth wings"
-nerf gun
-moth wings
-crazy colors (orange & neon green)
-shell transformer

MP Meg
-expensive
-fragile!
-super complex transformation!

well, those are some of the main negatives on each one,
see which ones bother you the least.
I'd go with Classics.

I'll give it some consideration. I already have the Classics Megatron.
