advice wanted about Devastators

I really want a complete Devastator, but I'm not sure which one to get. G1 is kind of out of the question, just because they go for so much $$. I'd like to get one of the newer ones, but which one? The Walmart exclusive one? (was that RID or Classic or what?) or the Universe one or wasn't there a Target exclusive? Which one is the best to get, and what's a reasonable price to pay?

(It's really killing me not having all the galleries up on Seibertron! )

If you're patient you could get a complete G1 Devastator on the Bay, just get them loose one at a time. It'd be pretty affordable.

I have 2 KO's, the yellow/black one, and the green/purple one, and an actual G1. The actual one is soooooo much better then the KO's, but they were decent enough fillers until I got the real one.

The later versions of Devastator don't really look much like Devastator.

Guess it depends on which one you want the most.

I got my G1 Devastator on ebay for $30 with all the weapons. I took a risk on ebay when it was flooded with KO's and got the real thing.

A G1 Devastator in todays market will run you about $80. It's worth more if you get one that has the box or cards.

This is a high quality KO Devastator, only complaint I have isthat Scavenger's foot is loose and the manual and box had some spelling errors and one small set of the label sheet was kind of low quality.

Seriously, be patient on e-bay and go for figures a bit at a time. It took me 2-3 years, but I was able to complete every G1 combiner that way. You never know what deals you'll score, especially if you can get a stray figure in a lot and then sell of the excess to get back some of the $$.

Otherwise, the RID Landfill Devastator repaint isn't bad (mostly because Landfill wasn't bad), and the Energon Bruticus combiner repaint really isn't that bad either. People just hated it because it was a repaint and not a new Devastator mold for the Classics line.

Thanks guys, I will seriously consider collecting the G1 set. I forget to mention that I already have two of them from when I was a kid, and they're both in decent shape. I'm not sure if I have all their accessories, but I've got a ziploc sandwich bag full of old G1 weapons and accessories, so I'll have to do some research to figure out if I have their accessories. Then I guess I just have to buy the other 3 (4?) figures and all the other accessories.

But let's say I want a newer version of Devastator. Would anyone recommend a newer version (Classic or Universe or whatever), or are they not even worth getting? They LOOK pretty cool, and I assume they would have more articulation than the G1 figs. Or should I just wait for the inevitable NEW Devastator that will surely come out some time in 2009?

I got the walmart exclusive clasics devestator, and he is ok

BUT

He is made of really on 3 bots. The torso bot, a leg/arm bot that is a front end loader, and a leg/arm bot that is a crane.

His face is also more monsterous looking. I always think of frankenstiens monster when i look at him.

Puttin ghim next to G1 devestator you would never know they were supposed to be the same guy.

He also is pretty flimsy and while there is a bit more articulation possible, you have to watch cause the bots pop apart pretty easily.

I actually made mine with both cranes as feet and both front end loaders as the arms since I thought that looked better.

I got mine on clearance at walmart. I would hate to think i paid aftermarket prices for it.

I don't understand. I've looked at the pictures. There are clearly 5 figures. Why do you say there are only 3?

For the Classics versions, Basically what he means is there are only 3 distinct molds for him.

2 of the limbs are just repainted versions of the other 2 limbs.

Hightower and Longhaul are the exact same figure just in different colors.

Same goes for Scrapper and Bonecrusher.

The over all desing is not bad. I have the Energon versions of those molds, and they hold together nice and tight. The combined form has Knees that bend and rotate so you have nice poseability.

The arms depending on who you use are a bit of a let down. Scrapper and Bonecrusher look a bit better as arms, but Hightower and Longhaul can actually be transformed to give Devastator elbows.

However, I prefer the overall aesthetic of the R.I.D repaint for Target.
http://www.tfu.info/2006/Decepticon/Uni ... stator.htm

Only 4 bots yes. but they look great on their own and combined.

And the combination scheme is quite ingenious and novel.

If you can find him for under 70 bucks, the Universe Target Exclusive version I think is the better of the 2.

That's really pretty. How much did you spend?

If you definitely want all 6 in a newer form you should look into the Micromaster version:

TFU.info Micromaster Constructicon Devastator entry

Just ignore the new names :P Speaking of which, Reprolabels has a custom sticker sheet for that very release:

Reprolabels MM Devastator Sheet

Can't go wrong with that, huh? :)

Fenrir72: Does your Devastator KO have any Hasbro dates on it? Mine looks identical to yours and now I'm scared.

All of my constructicons have a Hasbro/Takara date stamped onto them and the plastic does not feel new. Infact it seems like it's about 25 years old and has some slight wear that could be expected from any old toy no matter how good of condition it's in.

EDIT: I noticed your thread about the KO Devastatot and I bought mine several years ago so it's no where near as new as yours.

I got this "K.O" Devastator approximately around the same price of loose versions of the originals sans shipping. Let me reiterate the quality is outstanding (I'm not getting any royalties from the company :P ) with the exception of one of Scavenger's feet.........loose. The G2 orange Devastator I owned sucks BIGTIME! Glossy plastic, spot on paint apps (compared to the original Takara japanese version though had painted purple chest plates)

And yes, this version has machine stamped Has/Tak markings.

The instruction manuals too have spelling errors, intentional perhaps?

As to where I got them PM me this is a KO after all.

On the other aspect of the "new" version of Devastator, don't, personally his appearance is just plain blahh. IIRC it originally came from Superlink right? Takara got lazy and just remolded the four appendages instead of creating separate and distinct parts. Though generally speaking, the G1 combiners had some similarities in the arm and leg parts but as a whole had separately distict vehicle modes.

Because there are only 3 different molds used to form the gestalt. 2 bulldozers and 2 cranes to form the limbs. Steamhammer(whatever the hell he is)to form the chest/waist area.

My Devastator appears to be lighter in color than yours, but it is hard to tell with pics on the net. Do you know if there is a color difference between the original and the KO. They also match up to my second set which I know for a fact are real.

BTW, I bought mine on ebay about 5-6 years ago if that helps at all.

Color almost no difference except on aging issues.

That's comforting. My Devastator has signs of age. His joints are good and everything else, but it's an original for sure.

Unless you get them MISB, second hand units have some chrome oxidation, sticker wear and plastic discoloration (sometimes the sealed ones also have discolorations)

Take my KO, Scrapper's canopy and Scavenger's shovel is slightly discolored, this occurs even in the originals (so the KO makers even emulated that)
