So I bought Universe Unicron today. I never had the Armada version, and I am really glad I decided to pick this guy up.
But really?!
I counted.
28 twisty-ties!

Heck, glad I got mine loose or he'd be a mangled mess of plastic and cardboard in a landfill somewhere. Imagine they ever re-released Fort Max, doesn't bear thinking about.

At least the twist-ties aren't as painful as those clear rubber bands meant to keep looser parts from flopping around. Those things can rally dig in if you don't just snip them.

It took me literally half-an-hour to undo mine. I had to run to work the second I had him open.

[Old Man Kup Voice] Back in the day, when Unicron was first released...he was quite hard to find. Transformers fans everywhere were hunting Wal-Marts nightly to see if they could discover a planet devourer of their own. I found one 2 days after he had been first sighted. Bought him at 2 am in the morning with some very confused and drunk fellow college students in line behind me.
I remember watching late night TV and taking my time getting rid of every one of those twisty ties. Unicron was a big deal. It was like being a kid again.[/Old Man Kup Voice]

Unicron devours a little bit of your soul for every small cut and scratch from removing them all!

I don't have Uni, but I got Cybertron Primus recently and he had a ton of twist-ties too. Took my like half an hour to get him out of the package. I guess Unicron is the Dark God of Twisty-Ties and Cybertron is the Light God of Twisty-Ties.

Yeah, I've definitely noticed this is an ongoing trend with Hasbro.
Now that Savage has explained how to open Unicron, let me drift back in time to explain how to open G1 Bumbleebee (or any other minibot)
Open bubble on package.
Remove toy.

I remember when I opened my Armada Unicron. Those twisty ties sure were never ending.
I believe it was the next day that I invested in a small pair of wire cutters so that I would never need to untwist a twisty tie again. Best $6 I ever spent.

I still remember when I first got my Armada Unicron.
It was sitting on the bottom shelf in the toy aisle, and it appeared like it had been tampered with. I took it to an employee and asked them if i could get a discount because it seemed like someone took stuff out of it. It was around xmas time, 2003 I believe, and he zapped the barcode with his telzon (target's) and told me it was not even in the system!
He then suggested the price of $10 for Armada Unicron. It was a good Xmas thanks to that person.

And it wasn't missing anything afterall!
I do say though, by the time I was done getting him out, there was a ball of twist ties about the size of my fist. Energon Omega Supreme and Sentinel were not much better either. For me, part of the fun of opening a new TF is just taking it out of the box. I would use wire cutters, but, I try to keep everything MIB, and I do not like to damage any of the original packaging, as much as humanly possible.

Do what I do. I use wire cutters to free my figures. No twisting and the figure is free from the package in no time.

I remember my Armada Unicron took for-e-ver to get free. I keep all my toys MIB so I still have the twisty-ties together and there are a heck of a lot of them. I'm glad that I kept Energon Uni MISB. I'm not sure that I would want to go through that mess again.
On a side note, is there any difference between the new Uni and Armada's?

I always address a new Transformer package with my trusty wire snippers and an exacto knife (for the 25 or so pieces of scotch tape
holding the box flaps closed). That and the odd angled sections of the boxes make the process as involved as opening Pinhead's box, that is if you don't like to just shred the package.
Its always annoying when you get the wrists, ankles, torso etc snipped free only to still have the toy clinging to the packaging because there's still a final twisty embedded in the vac-formed supports behind the figure. Its always concealed or wrapped so tightly around the figure that you can't snip it without mutilating the figure.
Didn't someone on this forum once create a sculpture of Cybertron out of all their saved twist ties?

I use toenail clippers - less danger of scratching the figure.
