HELP! I don't own an Optimus Prime!

Hi all. Just been drooling over Seibertron's new Movie Optimus Prime Leader class gallery (that was quite a mouthful), and it's occurred to me that, despite being a massive TF fan, and with the exception of an old G2 figure in the roofspace, I don't own a single Optimus Prime!!!

So now I'm seriously tempted to buy several of the Prime incarnations featured in said gallery. It goes without saying I'll be getting that Leader class Movie Prime, but I want some advice and opinions on the other incarnations.

1. Is it worth getting Voyager AND Leader Movie Prime? I like the look of both, but maybe theres a crucial bit of info that I'm missing! Leader will have lights and sound and be bigger than guys like Ironhide and Ratchet, but Voyager has two huge guns! Both then?

2. I think a Masterpiece Convoy of some description is needed, so can anyone tell me which Masterpiece Prime I need to hunt down to get a black laser rifle instead of the silver one? Or can the silver one be easily resprayed without ruining it?

3. Is that KISS Players Convoy in the pic or Alternators Prime? It looks like KISS Players Convoy to me, what with the yellow eyes but I'd like to be sure. I'm a bigger fan of Takara/Tomy's work to be honest, but are the paint applications THAT much better to warrant the extra money?

4. How hard and expensive would it be to track down and buy some of those other primes? Like Star Convoy, Powermaster Prime and the original G1 Prime?

Any help is appreciated!!

Oh one more thing, I recieved my BINALTECH & TF COLLECTION COMPLETE GUIDE from HobbyLink Japan this morning. It is one fantastic book! Even though it's all in Japanese and so I can't read a thing, the photos and concept drawings are stunning! If you have any spare cash and like the Binaltech range - I strongly recommend this book!

Hasbro's 20th Anniversary edition (not the DVD edition) will get you a black rifle. Both MP-01 and MP-04 have silver/grey rifles. The 20th Anniversay Movie DVD edition (or whatever it's called) will present you with a delightful blue rifle.

I say get a classics Prime first, you can probably get him on clearance at target. (got mine last night if i might add)

but i say hunt them in this order.

-classics prime
-20th anniversary prime
-G1 regular or powermaster prime on ebay through lots
-maybe a cybertron prime (maybe easy to find through walmart still)
then all the primes in the middle. You will be surprised how fast you can build your prime army.

A blue rifle?! What's up with that?! I think I saw that in a Forbidden Planet once - crazy. I had my heart set on MP-04, because a G1 Prime just isn't Prime without his trailer, plus I can put one of my Binaltech 'bots inside! Maybe I'll just risk respraying the rifle. Thanks for the info!

Hey Excellion, I'm in Belfast too and I know for a fact the Toys R Us have the 20th anniversary Prime, not the crappy DVD one, but the original one with the black gun. Thats where I got mine, but expect to pay £49.99 for the pleasure. They have classics in stock too, so you may get the classics Prime or the Classics prime/Megatron 2 pack.

if you need to know where Toys R us is or anything drop me a PM.

Oh yes! Be sure to pickup the Classics Megs/Prime two-pack. That little Crap-imus Prime will be the zenith of your convoy collection!

There's a Toys R Us in Belfast?? Wow. Shows how much I don't know! I usually go to Forbidden Planet but they're really quite dear. Not sure if I'd get the Hasbro Anniversary Prime, the black gun isn't worth the shorter smokestacks and the slightly orange hue of the paintwork. I really am more of a Takara collector! There's always something better on the Japanese stuff! That said, I can't fault the look of the Classics Prime, and there doesn't appear to be a huge difference between the movie toys.

The Toys R Us is in Newtownabbey, near Abbey Centre.

As for the 20th Ann. Prime. Only the DVD one has the bad orange paint job. the original 20th ann. one is red and has the battle damage paint job, it does have the short stacks tho. But it's a lot easier to get than the MP1 or the Perfect Editon MP Prime.
I am a regualr in FP and my friend bought there MP Perfect Convoy for £150 (Xmas gift from his wife).

So if you really want an MP style prime I would suggest the original issue 20th Ann, even though it has the short stacks.

Unless you absolutely want a vintage G1 Optimus, I'd wait until the encore version comes out in August.

Actually his Robot Mode is really good. His Alt mode leaves a *lot* to be desired. but his robot mode, sans the head, is a worthy homage to G1 Cartoon Prime.

If only they had not incorporated the useless gimmick, and had made his legs collapsible into his lower legs. he would have been an excellent figue.

Same Goes for Megs from that same 2 pack. lousy gimmick. a Potentially great figure.

I would suggest you get an Armada Super Con Prime a.k.a Bendy Prime or any of its many redecos, including Cybertron recolor. He's a good Prime with quite a bit of articulation.

Wahh! I've just been to the roofspace and discovered that I am in fact a liar! I have both versions of Armada Optimus Prime! I had completely forgotten about those! I got one as a house warming present and the other I just bought one day because there was nothing else to buy (that's a really bad habit). Always thought the transforming trailer was a cool idea on Armada Prime!

I'm now fighting a war within... Hasbro 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime with short smokestacks but a black rifle? Or Takara Masterpiece Perfect Convoy with long smokestacks, a trailer but a silver rifle and a serious price tag?!

I share a similar problem, up until not too long ago I had not a single Prime OR Megatron figure, until I picked up the Cybertron deluxe Prime (Armada repaint) and the deluxe 10th anniversary BW Megatron.

Trying to get Classics Megatron, but I can't find him anywhere!

As I said my friend got the Perfect Edition for Christmas from his wife and to be honest, the trailer isn't worth the extra you pay. No Roller for a start and it's kinda just a big trailer, lol. He keeps Prime in Bot mode so the trailer is just kinda there, the whole medical/repair bay thing isn't that big a deal to him. so if you have all that money and REALLY want long stacks then go for it. ;)

MP/20th anniversary Prime is a work of art, but start small, so that you can fully appreciate the grandness that is the MP version.

If you wanted to move onward and upward in primes, start with Energon Prime, then Armada, then G1, then classics, then RID, then G1 Powermaster then Cybertron Prime, that way you will be working from worst to best (vehicle only and excluding Optimal Optimus) before getting MP Prime. Of course there are also all the variants (deluxe Prime in Cybertron, the Prime in the Clasics 2 pack etc)and Japanese only versions too, if you want to consider them, but they are quite harder to come by (and often more expensive)

Of course that is a pain, so I say get yourself a Classics Prime if you just want a Prime, or if you want to spend a little more, get one of the best Primes there is; Cybertron Leader class Prime.

If you like the BW series, dont go past Primal, just the regular (or Universe version) is great.

Wait for the G1 Encore line and get G1 Prime.

Very clever idea this one.

A lot cheaper and easier than trying to hunt down any previous version of the re-issues.

G2 is good if it's cheaper than G1. And if you don't mind the black trailer.

Don't forget the worst Prime ever, the G2 gobot (Hot Wheels-sized car) :P

I don't care for OP but the one I thought was pretty
darn good was the Armada one, price and everything
considered.

Other than that I'd say the new movie ones look like they
blow away the previous forms. holy cow!
