I bought a G1 scavenger that doesn't say hasbro. It just says takara and has some japanese. Is this a japanese release or american?

If it doesn't say Hasbro on it, then its not a Hasbro release. However it could be a Japanese or possibly a European release since I'm pretty sure GiGi sold alot of Takara G1 figures in Europe. My knowledge on that is a little shaky though so hopefully someone a little more in the know will pipe in.

It might me a Pre-TF Takara one. Can't remember if it was Diaclone or Microman, though

Diaclone figures were in different colors from the TF released version. Lots of reds, oranges and blues. Actually here is a picture on this page.
http://www.geocities.com/futuristgroup/vdiadev.htmlThat site also has a page with a great deal of info on variations in the TF released version, so you might be able to find what you need on there.

Its a regular release with the green and purple. Its just it has japanese and it says takara co. 1980, 1984. It doesn't say hasbro. What I want to know is if it is an american release or a japanese release.

sounds like it could be one of the many Japanese constructicons that may have slipped past Hasbro and made it

Speaking of Scavenger, I have one I bought on the Isle of Wight in the early Nineties. It's yellow, has purple tracks and a grey arm, but it didn't come with any combiner / Devastator pieces, only a little black gun. Does anyone know if it was a UK or European only one, because it's not on TFU.info. The backing card had the G2 logo, I think.

Thats on of the European versions. Pretty sure is an early G2, but yeah all of them were released minus the combiner parts. You can use the parts from the yellow G2 version with them though and it looks decent.

A lot of the early U.S. TF had Takara instead of Hasbro. I think they may have used Takara's TF stock mixed in with Hasbro made ones. I still have my G1 Bumblebee, and even though it came in a TF package, it does not bear a Hasbro mark.

I have to say, the European one looks better with a grey arm as opposed to the US' one with a yellow arm.

It's still a Hasbro release. Hasbro licensed many different Transformers from Takara along with other companies in 1984. Transformers were flying off the shelves so quickly back then that Hasbro was not so picky about the trademarks.
Let me jump back and explain this a little better. Hasbro was not producing all of it's own Transformers back in 1984. Some were being produced through Takara. This occasionally happened when supplies were short. My Predicon, Tantrum, has Takara stamped on it but I purchased it in the U.S. and the box says Hasbro.
