Saw this news over on the 2005 boards...

The Custom Fans Project City Commander Custom parts made by SGCollect has been released. The set includes and alternate head that you can switch out, G1 style Missile launchers and rifle.

I believe Dead Metal first mentioned this back in December right here on Seibertron.com...

Though the weapons look nice, I can honestly say, I have a serious problem with the new head.... see for yourself.

You took the words right out of my mouth.

I don't see why anyone would want to change City Commanders head anyway. Fans Project made a real high quality product and it looked good too. Not only that, but the mold itself was able to survive being used for not only the initial City commander run, but then for the Shadow Commander repaint with no loss in detail. The mold for this thing obviously didn't survive.

The two heads side by side really show the difference in skill between the two creators also.

I laugh at your pain.

I usually enjoy custom sets, but the head completely kills this for me.

If you're going to make a custom upgrade for a custom upgrade then it better improve the original. I'm not seeing it here.

Holy **** if I had preordered that I'd be homicidal right now...

Not that I WOULD have, I LOVE the FP head as it is...But regardless, the iGear set looks like it's going to be WAY better than that garbage...

I feel pretty burned by that and I didn't even order it  It actually pisses me off just looking at the pics and seeing the beautiful City Commander with that monkey-turd sitting on top of it...How could ANYONE willingly defile such an awesome figure that way?

:-x

EDIT: Ok seriously, that has to be a joke right? They're just messing with us...right?

Secondary manufacturer add-on, weapons, and upgrade kits have become all of the rage this year, but are really nothing new to collectors of other lines like G.I. JOE, and Star Wars.

With fantastic toys, we want fantastic gear to upgrade these toys. Thus, we see the Cliffjumper upgrade, the City Commander Set, and Shadow Commander sets released. We drool over the pictures of the upcoming 'Gear of War' set, and the iGear Autoscout. We enjoy having a Roller for our Masterpiece Prime trailer, and more!

The creativity and the desire to bring what the fans want make these companies special, but unfortunately sometimes, we need to understand that the quality may not live up to the expectation due to the size of the company making the secondary products and the lack of much of what the larger toy companies have.

So a little reminder, a little warning to us all that with the best intentions, things do not always work out.

Here we have an example. The TCP-001A City Commander Parts set by SGCollect, released this week. A custom upgrade for a custom upgrade (City Commander set), but unfortunately it seems that the quality did not live up to the expectation, at least in one purchaser's case.

First shown here, the upgrade set looked to have a fantastic new head sculpt to add to the City Commander set, as well as, the shoulder rockets, and G1 toy accurate rifle.

Purchasers have been disappointed to find that their sets may not live up to what we saw initially. Just check out the images of a purchased set below.

So while we applaud the small groups for trying to please the fans, we also want you to know that, sometimes the best plans do not turn out as desired, and so be careful when purchasing secondary add-on sets. Read reviews, be patient, and wisely spend your hard earned dollars on your beloved upgrades.

And by the way, these sets are available for purchase on eBay. You can check out the disappointed purchaser's thread here.

That head is completely horrible. When they realized it wasn't going to work out, why didn't they just sell a set with the missles and rifle?

I feel the pain of those of you who bought this. At least the other parts look good.

This is utterly craptacular. How could the manufacturer even consider selling this and think that no one would object? This company won't be able to survive this.

Ironically, this one is #92. I hate to see what #150 will look like.

a good lesson that not all customs are created equal, we all have to remember that no one is guaranteeing the quality of these builds.

Although so far, transformer fans have been really lucky, everything from the quints to city commander has been top notch.

this new head looks like it was just melted by a fusion cannon point blank.

The head reminds me of the Beast Wars episodes The Agenda Part III and Optimal Situation, when Megatron blasted G1 Optimus Prime's head into... well, something as ulgy as that.

All isn't lost  I got an email last night stating that if my head was indeed messed up, I will get another replacement. FREE. These were outsourced by SGCollect and the molds for the Shadow Commander head dont have this "joker" thing going on so the bad heads are going to b e recast and shipped to us that got the bad ones. Pretty neat, looks like I will get my fantastic new head sculpt after all and SGCollect is making good on something some companies would just forget about. :APPLAUSE:

Another thing, some didnt turn out like that. Seems to be a problem in a batch of the second run. :-?

Now THAT is why you don't buy anything made on a Monday or a Friday.
It looks like a dog that chased after a parked car and caught it...HARD!
This is the risk when something gets outsourced. Quality Control is left to someone elses discretion and you don't find out the end result until it's too late. However, the company contracted has no excuse for it's lapse in QC.

Even if that head was messed up in production, the colours still don't match at all and honestly the missiles and gun don't look all that great either...Just better than the head, by comparison...

Although its such a crap would you believe that quite few people have and even now paying $80 on eBay and online sites to get it?

This is almost the same price like the City Commander set on its own ROFL!!! I bet it was like this ... "I will buy one more City Commander Set, No No No No, I will buy two rockets a crap gun and a melted head instead, Yes that's what I'm gonna do"

Which comes to show have much money people have available to waste on crap customs ...
