G1 Hook Repair - Problem Solved!

I have a bit of a dilemma that hopefully has been encountered by someone before...

I've been slowly piecing together a G1 Devastator over the years and finally procured my final Constructicon - a mint Hook. HOWEVER, I just realized that he is missing the little chrome tab that swings out so you can attach Devastator's left arm (Bonecrusher). Now before I go looking for a junker Hook to salvage, has anyone ever tried to replace just this piece? Can it be done? Devastator is so close to being displayable...

just buy a junker and replace it. It would be to aggravating looking for pieces that might fit into hook and Bonecrusher.

That's the plan, but before I attempt a repair I'd like to know if this piece can actually be switched out.

to be honest, i've never seen a hook missing that piece lol. It took me FOREVER to find a hook because that left foot was always broken.

Hey there GR, comming to ya from Portage in the great state o' MI.
If the piece is replaceable you may be able to use that part form smething like KO rainbow Devastator.
It's a fine KO,and relatively cheap, and he has been useful in my needs whenever I needed a temporary fix for Hook.

If the part doesn't come off, as I too have never seen that piece missing either, your gonna have to get a junker Hook to fix it.

Oy, I've encountered this same problem. I would love to know if it's possible to pop that part back in and out of the toy.

Well, since no one on here seems to have tried this before, I'm just going to get a junker and take a stab at replacing the part(I posted over in Carbomya). I'll post my results once I try.

Success! The junker Hook came yesterday and I was able to remove the tab. The little pin underneath can be popped out. Devastator finally has a left arm!

How'd you do it? Did you just force it out?

The pin can be forced out of the swing tab, but it's a little tricky and I'm not sure it can be done without damage to the donor Hook.

I had to break off the chunk of plastic that it's attached to, but was able to free the tab by chipping away at the brittle plastic with a tiny screwdriver (hobby knife would probably work better). After that, I carefully put the tab in a vise and used two flat head screwdrivers to gently pry the pin out. If you don't have a vise, have a friend grip the tab with a pair of pliers (be sure to use a cloth or paper towel so as not to damage the tab with the pliers). Insert the screwdrivers on either side of the tab and then gently twist in opposing directions. The pin should pop free.

Great! I'll have to try that once I finish moving. My G1 combiners are packed away in a box 300 miles away. :D
