The main differences compare with MP8 Grimlock:

a) King's Accessories: Crown, gun & sword (different colour from MP8)
b) Dinobot mode - Brand new Silver colour
c) Robot mode - Blue colour to match with comic grimlock colour scheme

Of course the packaging box is different

Seibertron.com member Real Devastator alerted us that TakaraTomy have updated their website with information and images of the upcoming Transformers Masterpiece 08X King Grimlock. This figure is exclusive to ToyHobby Market.
Thanks to this update we now know the differences between this and the original Masterpiece Grimlock.
He comes only with the gold chromed crown, sword and blaster both of which have different colors than the first release.
The black body parts are now blue to let him look more like his depiction in the Marvel comics
His dinosaur parts are now silver
And of course the new comic like box.

That looks really awesome. I will be picking this piece up for sure since I held out on the first release. (Which I would still like to have one day.).

Seems like on the back of the package the description is written both in Japanese and English, unlike the other MPs which are only in Japanese. That's good.

I think the first verison looks WAY better than this one...Those colours work a lot better on paper...

Yeah I agree, love the idea and effort but the execution doesn't reach my expectations.

As much as having the crown being pretty kool! I still prefer the first release Grimmy I bought. Though I don't care for the platter and cups, but his original colors sit better with me than this new version.

I would like to thank Takara for pointing out the reason for the color differences on his hands and legs. We could have never figured that out on our own. Jeez...

Would be nice to have one to keep MIB-the packaging is great. However, If I really feel like I need a crown, I'll get the iGear set.

I Love it! this figure is amazing!!

the reason being.. It's Grimock, and he is also the 1st truly Marvel comic transformers devoted Homage that reference the comic material and is historic in that respect..

so regardless of whether you Love this piece or hate it..the historic nature of what this masterpiece represents in a homage is undeniable.. and to those who are 80's enthusiasts, this piece is pure Gold!!
I would love to get my hands on one..

marvel comic transformers were highly sought after during the 80's when the craze took the nation by storm, and King Grimlock was a huge fan favorite..

I'd rather have the show-accurate first version.

Y'know, now I'm curious about how much the Japanese collectors know about the U.S. stuff...

$100 more for a repaint with less accessories? I'll stick with the original release. I could understand if it was same price, but $250 is just way too much.

That killed it for me. May get it if I find it cheaper.

I'm pretty puzzled...to the best of my knowledge the Marvel comics haven't been officially translated into Japanese...

The funny thing is that BBTS still has the original up for preorder with an expected in stock date of Oct. MP-08X? 4th quarter. If this turns out to be the price of future MPs I'll need to find a second job to finance my love of giant robots.

You won't find it cheaper as that is the only place you will find it as it's exclusive to it.
