C-98 Ironhide - to open or not to open?

As the title of the thread says, I got my C-98 Ironhide in the mail today from eBay. I'm tempted to open him and feel the G1y reissue goodness for myself...but on the other hand, there's only 999 others in the world and I feel I should leave him in his C9 box.

The box has a slightly bent top flap and there's dings on the corners and its covered in dust

focus on how hideous he looks in robot mode, that should keep ya mitts off him.

I wish had one.

BBTS has a couple loose ones.

Buy one of those to mess with, and keep your other minty, if that's what you're worried about! :P

Seconded.

I've gone a bit protectionist on certain releases and think that you should keep it sealed. It can't be that hard to source a loose one.

looking at the prices on BBTS and eBay, i paid less for the C-98 (1000pc) than I would for a normal G1 ironhide

I can never figure out how that works out. Personally a perfect untouched re-issue would be worth more to me than a shoddy original. MISB aside that is.

Well, the choice is yours of course...

The C-98 is this a special edition? At first I thought, you meant a regular IH, but your words lead me to believe he's one of the E-Hobby (I think) collectibles, in which case, I too have one MISB!

Sorry about that I wasn't thinking, I guess. I actually just bought a $70.00USD Ironhide, loose complete from BBTS because you made me interested. I have not opened the Ironhide I had minty either... 8)

I say keep him boxed. He's not the most fun figure in terms of transformation and he looks a lot better in alt mode anyway.

Yeah, you could say its special edition. Considering that there's only 1000 in the world. It was an E-Hobby JP only exclusive

I ususally say to "Free him from his plastic and cardboard prision", but from someone who had/has a G1 Ironhide, keep him MISB and buy a loose one off ebay to mess with.

You can take a crappy loose one and tighten it quite a bit, and make it better than opening one. He's been in that box so long, he won't want to come out.

I am seriously tempted to free him, but that would mean devaluing an item there's only another 999 left of

Since I have 1 of those 999... I say rip it open! (Mine than becomes a fraction of a dollar more valuable...moohaha ha--diabolically laughs!)...I mean free him for Prime's sake! :P

I'd definitely keep him seeled. There's really no good reason to open him. It's not like he's even a fun or good looking toy. For me the novelty of having him seeled (something that few have) would far outway the desire to open and play (or display open, for that matter).

Don't break on me now - keep that E-hobby figure sealed damnit!

:P

Do it, open it.
You know you want to.
Besides, you said the box was not in the best
condition.
I thought I had read when these were first released there was only 800 of him made.

I'm going to go along with the general consensus. Leave him in the box and get a loose one to play with.

So can I presume there were 1000 Dirges made as well?
What about the ghost and black Starscreams?

Big deal, I have one of those too, in fact, I have all of the 1000 limited pieces and only 800 Dirge. All have been opened.

Go for it. If you win, you now have a relatively cheap, more or less complete Ironhide to play with, without opening a rare figure.

If you lose, does it matter?

I say keep the one you have MISB. It's rare, and it's G1. Old toys need our care and respect if they are to survive the next century.

I failed to win it, still in a dilemma
