I was not expecting to, since the character is silly, has a hideous alt form, and is just an ugly little bastard in general. There aren't many redeeming qualities about these characters (not enough to justify wanting the toys), but there is something compelling me to like it. What do you folks think?
I had a similar reaction to the twins when I first saw the concept art and when watching RotF. They're just goofy looking...goofs. BUT...their look has grown on me. I, for some reason, really like more chunky character designs. I've always thought that the general design, minus the face/head features, of Mudflap and Skids are ideal for my vision of a perfect "movie Bumblebee".
I think that the character design just works as it should. It's a unified concept so that, yes, the characters are silly, the alt modes aren't the sexy sports cars most prefer, and their faces are just...well, only a mother could love those mugs. Yet all the details work together. It's really a gestalt where when you look at the individual aspects of the character design, you get a mediocre rating at best but when it's all assembled, you get a super goof with an unusual charm.
I prefer Skids out of the twins so I'm going to get either the Deluxe or HA version. I hope to get an up close look at the HA version whenever it becomes available locally.
