I'm sorry, but as cool as they look, I'm not getting them.
OK-I'm going to piggy back on Mkall's comments here with a 30 second review as I just received my Convoy God Sword from TFSource today.
I really had high hopes for this piece when I ordered it. Despite some mixed reviews, almost polarizing, I decided to buy the blue Convoy version. When I first got its package out of the shipping box, I noted that it was light, very light. But still, I maintained a sense of optimism.
However, that feeling quickly ebbed away when I opened the package. The clear blue plastic is very poorly done. It's scratched and finger printed as many have noted before my comments. I was able to clear some of them away with a monitor dusting cloth, but it's still not clear and the scratches remain. To put things in perspective, I bought new deodorant today and the clear blue cap that protects the gel inside was not hazy at all, perfectly clear, and scratch free-and it's a piece of plastic that probably cost 3 cents to produce and will wind up in my recycle bin. If the plastic would have been this quality, it would have been light years better.
My feelings didn't really improve during assembly. The hilt piece that snaps in to hold the blade sections was not molded correctly and wouldn't close. With some trimming/shaving with the X-acto blade and a few prayers, I managed to get it together. The hilt extensions seem a bit flimsy too and much care was used to put the three pieces together.
After I got it assembled, I did feel somewhat better about it. Posed with my classics Prime (sans Powered Commander armor for now), it does look pretty good. And I think that posed with the fully armored Prime with the G3 trailer as a backdrop, it'll probably look pretty cool.
BUT, overall it's just not a 68 dollar piece. When you think of all the things you can get at this price, it's seems downright silly in retrospect to get it. But I wanted to see it and own it for myself so I knew I was probably spending WAY too much on it.
If you can wait a year or so and pick it up for 35-40 dollars, it might be reasonable for a two mode, fan produced piece. But don't pay full price for it unless you like to live dangerously (as far as breakage is concerned) and you have PLENTY of spare cash to blow.
I'll post pictures soon.
